The Game Returns

The process of translating a novel to a show, and what gets lost in between.

The Game Returns

I am not ashamed to say that I am a huge Game of Thrones fan. GOT is arguably the best television series ever created. It has the perfect balance of romance, violence, drama and even a bit of humor every once in a while. While they may not always last the longest, the characters are easy to fall in love with. Finding your favorite character is difficult because there are so many amazing ones. It's even difficult to find a character you hate because they are so good at being terrible you kind of admire them. So, cheers to TV producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for adapting the wonderful, incredibly detailed books of George R. R. Martin for HBO. You are the real MVP's.

However, when trying to convert a 700+ page book into a 10 episode season, some things get left out. Here are some of the top things left out from the previous seasons:

Some characters have been killed off in the television series that are still alive in the books. These include: Mago, Pyp, Gren, and Jojen Reed.

Tywin is way more villainous in the books than he is in the TV series. For example, when he kills Shae in the TV show she attacks him with a knife, in the book he just kills her in cold blood.

Two characters that are super BA in the books never appear on the show. Benjen Stark ("Coldhands") is a really cool, undead guy that rides an elk and saves Bran never showed up. Then there is the big one, Catelyn Stark was supposed to come back to life as "Lady Stoneheart". That would have been cool, and was supposed to happen at the end of Season 4...but didn't.

These are just some of the changes that have happened during the translating of novel to TV show, now can you imagine what will happen when Season 6 is supposed to air but there is no book written yet?! In an interview with Carice van Houten (The Red Priestess) she states that they are going completely off the books. Book readers will now be in the same boat as everyone else. Meaning everyone will be hanging off the edge of their seat every episode.

But let's not stress too much about Season 6 yet. We still have to get through Season 5.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
