The Friends You Don't Get To Pick: Your Siblings

It isn't always sunshine and rainbows between us, but I wouldn't change my siblings for the world.

Every year when I'm asked, "What's something interesting about you?" I ALWAYS say that I'm a triplet. I mean really that pretty much is the only interesting thing about me. Whenever I say that I'm a triplet, everyone always freaks out. "Oh my gosh that's awesome! What's it like being a triplet?" I always tell them that I don't know anything different. I've always had siblings in the same grade as me and I've always shared my birthday. They usually ask me if I had any other siblings and I tell them that I have an older sister. "Oh your poor parents, four kids so close in age." Yes my poor parents..four kids always playing sports, four kids in school at the same time, four cars, and four kids in college at once. But you know, my family wouldn't trade how unique we are for the world.

My siblings have always been my best friends. We've always been super close, but especially now that we are all grown up and in different parts of our lives, we are even closer. I cried saying goodbye to my brothers when I left for my Freshman year of college; it hit me they were no longer going to be walking the halls with me at school just like they did every year since preschool. I text my sister every day, catching up on our day, telling stories, or just needing to vent.

My siblings are some of the best people I know. My sister who is a Special Education teacher for students who are severely disabled is basically a saint. I call her Mother Teresa all the time. She has a passion to work with some very special students and I know it's a job she was made to do. She loves it and I am amazed at how much patience she has. My brother is going to be running the world as a business man. He's always working so hard and is really good at what he does. He can convince anyone to buy something, especially something really expensive. I always tell him I'm going to be living with him in his mansion someday. Last but not least is my other brother. He's going to be taking down criminals and keeping us all safe as a police officer. I can't imagine a better job for him than this. He's always been fascinated by the criminal justice system and I know he'll succeed in this job.

Now, I don't want you to think it has always been sunshine and rainbows between us. We've had our fair share of fights growing up and I know I could easily defend myself against someone (thanks, Shawn, and Ian). But, they've made me stronger and a better person. I'm very lucky to be so close to my siblings and to always have someone who has my back.

As my dad always says, "There's two red, two brown, two boys, two girls, two bad and two good."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
