To The Friend Who I Don't See Much

But we are still best friends in the long run

To The Friend Who I Don't See Much
Ashley Michael

You know who you are.

You are the one who I don't see much of for days. Weeks. Months. Maybe even a year.

You are the one who probably lives *just* far enough away or *just* busy enough that we can't fit our schedules around enough to see each other.

You are the one who says, "yes, we should totally get together sometime!" and nothing happens.

But in the happenstance when the stars align and the schedules match up and the gas tanks allow?

Wow. It's like no time had passed.

We talk about everything. Dates. Drama. Whether we like life since we last met. Whether we hate what's happening in politics. The actual crazy weather.

Music. Art. The Future. Our hopes and dreams that have changed since we last spoke. What we spoke about last time.

We do anything not to part ways for hours on end until reality sets in and we have to return home. Sad, but hopeful for the next time.

If you are one of those friends, I love you.

I want to thank you for understanding that crazy schedules and multiple activities don't leave much room for a social life between us.

Thank you for reminding me that it's okay to be weird and wild in public.

Thank you for the times we talk so fast because we are trying to use all the time we have and having laughing fits because we come to a point when we don't even understand each other anymore.

Thank you for reminiscing with me about all our little middle/high school inside jokes that we still find hilarious after all these years.

Thank you for taking time for us to simply be together. I know we will be friends for a long, long time.

Until next time, my forever friend.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
