Breaking Down The Four Seasons Of College

Fall and Spring consist of friends and studying, Winter consists of sleep and family, Summer consists of working as much as possible and enjoying a little sun.

1. Fall Semester

At the beginning of the semester, we swear we will be ahead on all of our schoolwork, get ahead on as many papers as possible, or promise ourselves we will get to bed at a decent time. This motivation usually only lasts for a short time period. If it lasts longer for you, then you deserve a round of applause. Everyone is reunited with their friends they have been away from for three months, so every time you do something you're going to message a friend. We don't like to be alone, whether it is just eating, grocery shopping, or going to the beach. Basically friends and studying are our only thrills in life for four months. Near the end of the semester, we push through finals, study our lives away and are more motivated than usual to ace every final.

2. Winter Break

This season is simple. They say the cold makes you feel the need to do fewer activities and get out less. For college students, that is an understatement. We literally sleep most of our days away on Christmas Break, devour delicious food while we have it, and NETFLIX and HULU are on everyday of our schedules. Winter Break is used as a time for most of us to be the true definition of LAZY.

3. Spring Semester

Guess what? You're reunited with your friends once again, only this time the break was shorter than three months. The first topic is discussing how winter break was, then you immediately start planning for spring break. The countdown to spring break begins after the first day of new classes. Like fall semester, spring semester is pretty much the same the only difference is your tolerance and motivation. Near the end of the year, there is going to be drama, whether friends are fed up with each other, making up after a fight, or finding a boyfriend/girlfriend. Everyone has buttons that can be pushed, and near the end of the year, one or two people will make you mad or annoyed. The remaining time after spring break sucks. Point blank. You try your best to focus 100 percent, get back on track, pretend you do not want to drive to the beach every weekend, or just scroll through Instagram reminiscing on spring break. Honestly, near the end you are setting your goals and grades to a realistic standard. Some classes you know for a fact you are not going to make an A, so your goal is to make a B. This goal varies for everyone but we all know we have one primary goal: make it to SUMMER.

4. Summer Break

Summer is the season to get your tan on and make some money. Several college students start a job, or pick up more shifts during the summer. For some reason we always have to be doing something. Summer is the time to SAVE money, not spend it. By saving money, the student will not have to work as much the same week they have three exams. The more you work in the summer, the less you will have to work during fall and spring. Summer is three months so enjoy the break while it lasts. If you are taking a summer course always remind yourself you are one step closer to your dream job.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
