There is the prospect that hope may not be everything one wishes it to be and will merely be a concept in one’s head. Hope is a thing that can be gained from attaining what one wishes. It is a concept that is used often and as the main theme in forms of media and entertainment; usually, it is employed during a setback or obstacle, and hope is the emotion that is supposed to suppress and overcome the negative emotions. An example is a fairytale, as one would expect it to have a pleasant outcome and yet that is not always the case, especially fairytales that contain an evil twist to them, such as adaptations of fairytales that have a bad alteration that originally would have a fairly good or normal ending. Some examples are in movies like Tangled, the adaptation of Rapunzel, a fairytale where the heroine hopes to be able to leave her tower, compared to the Grimm brothers' Rapunzel version in which her prince has his eyes poked out and his eyesight lost….so the prince who had worked to save Rapunzel, in the end, isn't able to lay eyes on his damsel. Her hope of being saved is somewhat dashed by her prince suffering a loss to save her. Another movie, Inside Out, has personas that exist in a person's head that control the decisions in their lives, thus affecting how they feel and the levels of hope the characters feel. Depending on which emotion we let take the lead, our hopes are dimmed or strengthened.
Hope can result in changes in people if they believe something fruitful is on the horizon. The end result of if one gets past the process of simply hoping and wishing for something takes flight when someone combines hope and action. Like in Rapunzel's story, she hoped for someone to save her from her tower, but she had to let down her hair for her prince to save her. Hope and action take off when someone acts on something. The difference between the two, those who act and those who wait, can provide dramatically different results. Being stuck in a certain mindset and not acting on one’s words, ideas or visions can diminish hope. I find that happens a lot in life, and for me in college especially as I hope to get the specific classes to meet my class requirements, attempt to get classes I need for my major, and just hope for things to go smoothly. I have to take action and seek counsel or guidance to achieve my personal end results. I find hope to be another form of support as something I can rely on to help give me encouragement, but sometimes not achieving my desires puts a damper on my feelings of hope and acts as a limiter to myself at the same time. The antithesis of hope, inaction and not progressing, is the very thing that can pull me down. These are daily occurrences that happen in people’s lives quite often. There are all types of individuals who fall in different ranges when it comes to hope; for example, there are those who will act on their hopes, those who will wait in anticipation for something to happen, those who will do nothing, and then the rest who fall in between.
Hope is an important factor in regard to religion and in relation to faith and the way that it will impact the lives of the believers. Hope is a key tenant of faith. A similar occasion occurs when thinking about applying for a job as one will put their effort into obtaining the job, and the employers will evaluate different people and the result will vary depending on the types of people that apply and their levels of hope, and action, selling themselves and their skills, explaining their vision and key attributes that can benefit the employer. Candidates turn their hopes into reality through action. The amount of times hope is probably applied in our lives without realizing it is astounding. How many times have you ever thought, “I wish or I hope…this will happen for me,” and feel a surge of disappointment hangs over you for a while before saying, “Why did this happen to me?” or “Why did that person get/do/have that and I don’t?” Hope is an emotion that needs to be in everyone’s lives because it provides something that can be made tangible that one can live for or appreciate. This specific emotion leads to other emotions like sadness, anger, guilt at times (for having something that someone else is not able to obtain), and several others. Hope can teach valuable lessons and create several endings in people’s lives for those that act upon, those that don’t and then everyone else who utilizes it effectively to their advantage. Turn your hopes into dreams and it will make for an eventful future and a wild crazy ride in the present!
