Over the past few days Kim Kardashian West has graced all of our new feeds with her nudity. She posted a naked selfie with the caption, "When you're like I have nothing to wear LOL." We all know Kim K West has more than enough things to wear, so Mrs. West must be showing off her post-baby body.
As a female you will react one of three ways to this photo. The first reaction is fairly obviously, 'She's a slut and this is why women are constantly viewed as sex objects.' The second reaction is the polar opposite, 'So what if she posted a naked picture, it's censored. Justin Bieber got caught naked and everyone laughed it off, she posted this picture to feel beautiful.' And the third reaction is, 'Wow she's got to stop posting naked pictures, this is why society is so messed up. Kids idolize this woman. *face palm*
I personally reacted by stating that her closet is bigger than my apartment so she shouldn't be posting so many nudes. Girls already have low self esteem because they compare themselves to all of their peers and family, but to compare your body to this picture? She's had two babies and probably weighs less than I do, and that's a tough pill to swallow when you aren't feeling 100 percent.
Kim K has always looked like a million bucks and it probably cost about that much too. She probably has a personal trainer, dietitian, glam squad, personal selfie photographer, and personal chef. She has time to work out every day and can have healthy meals because chances are she's not cooking it. She also has access to all of those magic diet pills that eat every ounce of fat off of your body.
I'm a full time college student working basically full time, so I don't have time to hit the gym every day. Plus if I do so happen to get a day off why would I go work out? I was on my feet for 12 hours at work the day before. I also enjoy fast food because it's cheap, easy, and always open when I need it. I eat healthy when I can, but eating healthy isn't cheap. I am always chasing the idea of being skinny, and I know I will never reach it because it keeps getting smaller.
When a size 12 model is considered plus size that and it's broadcasted as such a milestone in the industry, how are size 12 women supposed to feel? Plus size? Why do all models have be a certain size? Since we were children our parents and teachers have preached that beauty comes from within, yet we are so obsessed with appearance that we overlook inner beauty unless it's a size 0 with long wavy hair and a pretty face.
The next time you start comparing yourself to Kim K or Scarlett Johansson remember what their daily life is like and what your daily life is like. Before you get depressed because you're not living their lives, look around at what you do have. You have friends and a family that love you based on your real self. And if you're lucky enough to have someone to love you then why would you want to live their lives?
