The Five Stages of Grieving During Finals Week

I think everyone can relate to the grieving process of finals week.

Well, the end of the semester is coming up pretty quick here. So naturally, college students are beginning to panic and stress about finals week (AKA one of the worst weeks of the semester). This is the point in time where college students basically run around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to soak in as much information as they can in as little time as possible. Once finals week finally rolls around, every student goes through the five stages of grief. Here they are.

1. Denial.

This is by far the best stage because you don't even know what is about to hit you yet. You go into finals week telling yourself that "you can do this" and "you've been studying for ages, you know everything." In this stage, you are convinced that finals week will not destroy you and leave you with RAGRETS of watching too many episodes of The Office on Netflix a couple weeks ago when you should have already been preparing for finals.

2. Anger.

This stage consists mostly of screaming, pulling out your hair and throwing your things across the room. You are past denial and now realize how incredibly screwed you are and extreme anger sets in. You hate everything and everyone in the world. Studying is the worst, tests are the worst and your professors are the worst-est.

3. Bargaining.

You have now lost all logic and start to try and make deals with yourself in order to convince yourself maybe not all hope is lost. You tell yourself, "Hey, I just need a 65% on the final in order to barely pass the class" and "It's fine I'm fine." In your head, you might think this sounds like a good idea and that giving up on studying is the way to go. WRONG.

4. Depression.

The reality of finals week and your failure have set in. You now know that you are forever doomed and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. At this point, you are heavily contemplating just giving up on all efforts of studying and you know for certain ALL HOPE IS LOST. There is nothing you can do to salvage the situation at hand. You have been studying non-stop and you still know nothing. Everything in this stage is dark and gloomy. A lot of food is also consumed during this stage.

5. Acceptance.

The final stage of grieving during finals week. You have taken all of your tests and naturally, they did not go as planned. You look back on the week of tests and pure torture you just had and understand that there is no longer anything to be done about it. You have finally accepted defeat and know that you most likely took multiple Ls during finals week. There is nothing to do now but drink and watch Netflix.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
