There are not many cases where the film adaptation of a book is nearly as comprehensive and enjoyable as the book they are based on. All fans of the "Percy Jackson" series were at least severely disappointed and more likely extremely angered by the film adaptations. While the "Harry Potter" movies were good, nothing can ever compare to the books themselves. Same goes for "The Hunger Games." However, there are a few cases in which the movies really do outshine the books. And there are most likely cases where the books just weren’t as high quality. Here’s a list of movies that are widely considered to be better than the books they were based on.

Yes. These are books.

2. "The Martian"

This a situation where there was a great book and a great movie. The special effects of today really bring this storyline to life on the big screen, but I’ve heard that the book is excellent also.

3. "Jaws"

Yes, this is a book as well. The thriller Jaws just wouldn’t be the same when confined to words on a page.

4. "One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest"

Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher star in this movie and gave Oscar-winning performances.

5. "The Godfather"

"The Godfather" was a crime novel written by Mario Puzo. Puzo even helped to write the second and third installments of "The Godfather" film adaptations.

6. "Silence of the Lambs"

"The Silence of the Lambs" is a novel by Thomas Harris. The movie eclipsed the book when it swept the Oscars by winning Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Writing Adapted Screenplay.

7. "No Country For Old Men"

The book was written by Cormac McCarthy, but like "Silence of the Lambs," the movie overshadowed the novel. The movie won Best Picture, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Director and Best Writing Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars.
