"It was cold winter's night, and I was exhausted. I was suppose to be home a hour ago, but unfortunately I was held back to do stupid paperwork for my idiotic boss. As I was walking, my phone vibrated in the pocket of my jeans. I reached for it and read a message from my roommate. She was wondering where I was and when I would be back home, so I quickly typed a response and sent it to her. I began to walk faster passing houses, apartments, and alleyways. I wasn't sure of my surroundings; everything was just a blur. Well, everything was a blur until I heard the sounds of rustling from behind a dumpster in a blackened alleyway. I stopped walking and tried to make sense of the scene before me. I didn't dare make a sound, but it was nearly impossible to see.
I began to walk towards the rustling when suddenly an animal rushed out from behind the dumpster. I should've left, but I had to see what was happening. I was curious. As I got nearer, the smell got worse until I could no longer stand it. I began to gag and nearly threw up, but I had to see whatever it was that was behind the dumpster causing the smell. I was now directly in front of the trash and began to move it, little by little. The farther deep I got into the trash the more I wanted to throw up. I finally get rid of the last few pieces of trash and saw... a hand? I was confused. Puzzled. Curious. I grabbed the hand, and it was cold and motionless. My heart began to pound. I could hear my heart beating and all the coldness that once surrounded me was now gone, and I began to sweat.
I pulled the hand and drug a cold, lifeless body out from behind the dumpster. It was a man. He was short with raven black hair and matching eyes. He was wearing a suit or what was left of a suit. The worst part was all of the dry blood that covered his clothes. It was obvious that he had been stabbed, but I never saw a knife. All I could see was a dead man who probably had a family he was going home to, and all I could begin to think about was how there was a woman waiting for her husband or children waiting for their father or a dog waiting for his owner! Someone was waiting for him, and they would never see him again. I'll admit that I did begin to cry. No one should have to die like that and no one should have someone as important as him taken from them by murder. It's disgusting just the thought of it. Why would you take someone's life? In what world does that make any sense? All I know is that I set him down and called you. Then you came and told me everything would be fine, but now that I think about it nothing will be fine. Ever! There aren't enough words in the world that can make up for what happened tonight or to that man."
"And that's all you know?"
"Yes, Officer that is all I know."
