Regardless of age, we all count down the days until summer break. However, there are many difficulties that college students face when they're home for the summer. Here are the top five.
1. You don't have a meal plan to rely on anymore.
Unlike when you're at school, you do not have an excessive amount of options of what to eat. When at school, all of your meals, regardless of what you buy, are being charged to your meal plan, so you're not constantly checking your bank account or debit card balance to make sure you're not broke. While it is always nice to have home cooked meals made by family, you may not always have the ability to eat whatever, whenever. It is not unexpected to miss eating ice cream at 2 am from your dining hall.
2. You are sadly, not living seconds away from your best friends.
While leaving school means seeing old friends from high school or at home, there is nothing worse than being unable to walk across the hall to spend time with your best friends. While you may be lucky enough to live relatively close to some of your college peers, many of them may live hours or even a plane ride away from you. The only perk of living far away from them is that when you do eventually reunite, you're the happiest person alive.
3. You are bored out of your mind.
While at school, students are typically involved in different activities to balance their studying and social life. Whether one involved in certain clubs, sports, Greek life, community service, or specific religious groups, they are almost always surrounded by their friends and provided with countless activities. Therefore, while cuddling with yourself in bed or on the couch is preferred once in a while, it becomes especially boring to have little to do while at home.
4. You're not constantly partying during the week.
At school, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays typically consisted of day drinks, frat parties, or nights out at the bars. Even though you used to hate receiving countless invites to events on Facebook, you can't help but admit that you miss going out and spending time socializing with your friends.
5. You don't know where you feel more at home.
Typically, college students spend the majority of their year at school, but may feel more comfortable while at home. You most likely prefer your bed at home, but you miss getting breakfast with your roommate during the weekends. You love having the ability to drive your car wherever, but you miss cabbing or bussing to parties with your best friends. You don't miss the academic aspect, but you miss everything else.
