Dear Diary,

As usual, I had school again today. My alarm went off at the bright time of 5:45 a.m. I went straight to my closet and picked out the perfect outfit - in case "you-know-who" decided to notice me today. I even gave myself time to enjoy a cup of coffee and some breakfast to give me energy throughout the day! I actually found myself paying attention in class - even history. Want to know the craziest part? I was interested the whole time! I think it was because we were learning about events in the earlier part of the 21st century. Dang, America was a mess. I mean, I call it home and love it because I think we must have had a good amount of time to pull ourselves together, but I was shocked at what I read.

Our textbooks have timelines and one of them showed mass shootings. At one point in time, there was one of those every two years. By the mid 2010's it was nearly every two months! I was heartbroken reading that. There were some weeks where it was a daily thing. I could barely process that this happened in the same century I'm in. Next week, we learn about how society overcame it and the steps they took - I just hope it didn't take them up to this point. Maybe I'm just lucky to be born out of the tail end of the era. Oh gosh, I hope they gained some compassion sooner than that.

Speaking of compassion, that is definitely the last word I would use to describe that time. Yes, full PASSION was there, but I didn't recognize compassion. I learned about all the different groups people were in, but I would hate to find out that they completely let those separate society. I mean, they're all human. I sure hope they found a common line.

I'm also in AP History, so I have to learn about all the presidents and what they did in office. I got to study some elections from that same time period and I could barely believe what I was reading. From an outsider's viewpoint, I could easily tell that America was just needing a little clean up. From what we looked at today, I'm not convinced that they were too hopeful of that happening anytime soon. At this point, I'm just looking forward to seeing what they did that made our country end up where we are now. Reading it today, it just seems surreal.

Wow, I wrote a lot more than normal. Honestly, I haven't been so eager to learn before. I mean, I guess not so much learn, but just to know. I might even skip ahead of the lesson and see for myself - shocker right? I hope it isn't too horrible of an ending.

I'll be sure to tell you what I find out!

Sincerely,

Teenage Girl (2075)

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
