The Desire To Travel

Everyone wants to travel the world and be financially secure. How can I do that as a college graduate?

I think everyone for the most part desires to travel the world. Traveling doesn't really matter about where the destination is, whether it be abroad or within the United States, but rather about just enjoying the new experience. I think that is why once I graduate from University I desire to go abroad. My goal is to go to another country and live there for a year. More so, I want to live in South Korea for a year and teach English.

Now, teaching English abroad has become its own market in itself. A lot of foreign countries want to hire native English speakers to teach it to their students because English has become the number 1 language in use whether it be for business, politics, or other means. And a lot of students out of college are giving up this idea of finding a job within the United States workforce and are deciding to bring their talents to these others countries. There are a lot of reasons why people are considering going abroad and teaching English as a full time job as a better option than staying within the United States because of competition, security, and the desire to travel.

There is a lot of competition for students living in this new generation to find a good job because there is an abundance of those job searching with Bachelors’ degrees. So, to single ourselves out to employers we have to go above and beyond to show them that we are qualified and fit for the job. This means that we have to acquire certifications, more experience, and sometimes even more education and degrees to show that we desire to work for the business or company. It is hard to find a job within the United States because of the prerequisites needed to apply and have that job. So, many give the idea of going abroad to work good consideration.

There is also the fact of security. Without a job, the majority of college students have to move home and live with their parents and go on the job search. Mind you, a lot of college students come out of University and College with loans and have to find a way to pay those back, and without a job you cannot really do that. It is a struggle to become financially independent as an adult and find a sense of security because you are jobless and without a degree. However, I know that if I apply and go abroad to teach I would be able to have housing, get paid, and be able to save my money without being a burden on anyone else. I would be financially secure on my own.

I also, desire to travel. I want to go around the world and discover other cultures and be a part of their world. I know living abroad will change my perspectives on things and challenge me to become a better person. By learning new cultural ways and experiencing new foods I would gain more knowledge about the world. And I only hope to be able to use that knowledge to help others in need. I desire to travel but help those along the way.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
