Going to college you constantly hear horror stories about bad roommates. Lucky me, I did not experience a horror story. In fact, my roommate is my best friend and I will forever be thankful her.
I was so scared leaving for college. I cried the whole 10-hour drive down to South Carolina. There were so many fears, but one of the most horrifying was not making new friends. Immediately when I got there, I felt a unique connection like with my roommate. On one of the first days at school, she immediately said, "are we going to be best friends?" Right then I knew I had someone who was looking for a long-lasting friendship. Which is exactly what I wanted.
We got comfortable with each other very quickly whether it was by playing music and having a dance party with an epic light show so that the whole floor (and room below us) could hear, having her yank knots out of my hair and eventually we permanently pushed our beds together to make a king size bed perfect for “snuggling nice” and watching YouTube together. We go out of our way to help each other out with homework, drama and even cleaning. There will be stressful days and I will come home to my bed made or laundry folded.
One morning I woke up and there was a cookie on my bed. So I decided to make her bed for her. Later that day she asked me “Marissa, why did you make my bed” (keep in mind, I'm not best cleaner, so it was a shock to all parties involved). And I said, “because you left me a cookie!” And she told me she did not leave it for me. Turns out one of our friends just left it there the night before. We laughed endlessly! There are very few times where we have sat together and not had a laugh. Another night when we were laying in bed, I was talking in a really creepy voice, making sure to give her nightmares. Then she tried to do it and for some reason, it just didn't sound right. We laughed so hard I ended up having to sleep with no sheets on the bed...
I was so worried about my joining a sorority and her not being in one. I thought that would tear us apart but really it has only made us closer. I bring her to whatever sorority events I have whether it just be a date party or a formal she has been to both. She is so easy to be friends with so everyone in my sorority loves her. She is an honorary sister I must say hopefully, one day will become my sister along with my best friend.
Amber has one of the biggest hearts. She is honest and loving. She has changed me in so many ways making me a better person. She has defiantly been a huge part of making my college experience the best it could be and I know we will be in each other's lives till the day we die.
