Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to my first published piece to ever have my name attached to it! Any piece written before this was either left unpublished or was submitted under a pseudonym, so I'm actually very excited to be writing this. But because I'm so excited, I wanted to write about something that gets me just as excited (if not more so), and so I figured the only appropriate topic would be the month of October.
Now, I'm sure many of you reading this are thinking one of two things:
- Why is this guy so freaking excited for October?
- Why on earth am I still reading this?
Luckily for me, both of those ridiculous questions can be answered with one word: Television. That's right everyone, I'm talking about good, not-so-old fashioned T.V. But not just any shows, not by any means; 3 (but hopefully 4) particular shows are currently driving the hype train that is my heart on the tracks of platonic, but probably not romantic, love: The Flash, Arrow, and DC Legends of Tomorrow.
So for those of you that do not know, all three of these shows are based off of characters from the DC comics, and all have been phenomenally handled since their pilot episodes. Arrow, the first of these shows, started a revolution on television that expanded to a variety of networks, including ABC, The CW, and Fox. If that sounds even to remotely interesting to you, then I would strongly recommend going to watch these shows on Netflix/Hulu, because after this point there are MAJOR spoilers. If you’ve already watched these shows or don't mind some spoilers, then feel free to continue.
So, on the season finale of Arrow, a variety of important things happen, including the defeat of Damien Darhk, the main villain, but that was expected; what was not expected was the loss of his teammates; both Thea and Diggle, characters that have supported Oliver since season 1, have left his team, leaving only Oliver and Felicity, Oliver's ex-fiancée, as the sole members of “Team Arrow”. Now, they must rebuild their team in hopes of keeping their city safe. This accounts for about 10% of my hype.
DC Legends of Tomorrow had a similar ending to their season (albeit it was told in a much more satisfying manner). The difference, however, comes at the end, where instead of going on another journey with their leader, Captain Rip Hunter, they're interrupted by another ship that comes crashing down beside them, carrying Rex Tyler, a member of the Justice Society of America. Rex Tyler warns them that taking off could mean the end of their lives. When asked about who sent him, he looks at them calmly and replies “You did”. Oh man, I got chills from just typing that, that's how cool the season finale was, so it would make sense for this to account for 20% of my hype.
Now, The Flash is regarded by many as one of the best, if not the best, superhero related show on television, and for good reason. Well, a lot of good reasons, but we’ll only be discussing one in this article: The very end of the season finale, the most insane plot twist of all time: Barry Allen, the fastest man alive, goes back in time and save his mother from her untimely death at the hands of Barry’s arch nemesis, the Reverse Flash. And the episode ends there. This is incredibly significant because this same event happened in the comics, and is commonly referred to as “Flashpoint”. In the comics, Barry’s interfering with the past has catastrophic consequences for the earth, that quite literally lead to its destruction, so I'm ecstatic that there is now a live action variation of this. This accounts for 69% of my hype.
For those of you who've been counting, you’ll notice I have 1% of hype left. That 1% is saved for Supergirl, a show that aired its first season on ABC. I have only seen the first 2 episodes of this show, and I've gotta say I'm not super impressed with it at the moment, though I've heard it picks up later on. The reason, however, that I'm even a little hype for this show is because it was recently moved from ABC to The CW, where the other 3 shows also air. I'm hoping that Supergirl not only lives up to, but exceeds the hype that I have for it.
And that's it! That's why I'm so excited for October to arrive, because these shows come on in the first week of October, and my heart is literally beating twice as fast just thinking about it.
I hope you guys enjoyed reading this! If you did, please like/share this with your friends (unless you're trying to hide the fact that you like “nerdy” stuff like this, as I am...whoops). If you didn't like it, please comment and let me know what I did wrong, and if there are any ways I can improve!
Thanks for reading guys!
