Being in a cultural student organization is an amazing experience in itself. It provides students with excellent opportunities to make new friends that may become your new life-long buddies, experience leadership opportunities, learn about a completely new culture that you may not have been familiar with and make college enjoyable. There is absolutely no harm in joining a cultural organization even if you are not from that cultural background. Don't let that stop you from joining other organizations because chances are they are all super chill people that are passionate about teaching others about their own culture and finding new friends.
As stated previously, being in a cultural student organization has an insane amount of benefits. You just can't go wrong with getting involved with one...or however many as you want. Each individual cultural org is unique in it's own way and there's so much to learn from each of them. In each group, you will meet people you never thought you'd get to meet. Each person comes with their own story that may provide you with a whole new cultural perspective on the world. By joining a cultural organization and befriending many different people, you will learn just how important it is to keep an open mind to all kinds of people and cultures as you progress through college and life
If you are interested in learning more about the traditions and cuisine of different cultures, what better way to learn than by joining a cultural organization? If you join a cultural group on campus, there will be many opportunities to go out and eat the food of that cultural group with the new friends that you may have made through joining the organization. Whether it may be a Vietnamese Student Association and eating Phở or even a Muslim Student Association and having halal, all student cultural organizations are great ways to get a taste of each culture.
Also, if you're hesitant about joining a group because you're not from that certain culture- don't be afraid. The whole point of joining a cultural association is to learn more about it and to experience it in many different ways. No one will ever judge you for hanging out with a certain cultural group. Just have fun associating with new people. Enjoy the experiences you will be gaining from cultural groups.
A final reason you should join a cultural organization is that it makes for great opportunities to create incredible memories with people you love and care about deeply by learning and partaking in their culture. College is all about having a good time, learning and getting prepared to live on your own in the real world. Cultural organizations can satisfy all of these criteria easily. You want good times? Cultural organizations can help you meet hundreds of new friends that are always willing to spend time with you. Want to learn? No problem because out of those many friends you make by joining an organization, there are many of them who will be studying the same thing as you so you can be encouraged to study and learn together. You can also learn so much about the many different cultures through these groups.
Addressing the "living on your own" part; what cultural organizations ultimately do for students is they allow for students to see the world through different cultural perspectives that they may have not have been able to see before on their own. By experiencing different cultures, students become more open-minded about how other students of different cultural backgrounds may think or function. It tints the student's own "cultural lenses" and allows for them to view the world in a whole new perspective.
