Let’s Rage (haha not really).
We realize that we probably annoy a good 75 percent of the people that are not involved in Greek life, but if we’re being honest, we aren’t going to stop.
Being a part of a sorority is something that some people frown upon because there is a giant stigma, but isn’t everything capable of having a stigma? Every part of life is only what you make it and Greek life at Georgia Southern University is pretty darn amazing.
For this reason, we won’t stop. There is always something to look forward to.
1. Bid Day
the most obvious and soon to come event of the year so we have reason to celebrate!! All of our new babies will be running down Olympic Boulevard to their new homes and we’ll be welcoming them with open arms (p.s. fall ’17 WE LOVE YOU and your bigs can’t wait to squeeze you and spoil you!
2. Date Nights
How sweet it is to dance the night away with the best friends and best guys! It’s always fun askin’ your best guy to tag along with you to a fun night of food and dancing with the people you love the most!
3. Socials
When you see people posting pictures in costumes and it’s nowhere near Halloween, that’s us and that’s socials!! These themed events usually involve one sorority and one fraternity and another round of dancing, food and fun! Getting dressed up in a Ke$ha costume to all show up and jam to nothing but Ke$ha, sorry but that sounds like nothing but fun to me! (lots of glitter — yes we know).
4. Big/Little
This might not be a big deal to being on the outside looking into our crazy lives, but this is the best time of the year! I remember being so, so, so, so, excited to turn around and see who my big was when we showed up at the prettiest house on Greek row that night in September. (I love you Madison Patrick – forever and forever times infinity) This gives you a mom and grandma and great-grandma and a whole family inside your knew home. These people are the first ones I call on for anything and I can’t wait to be the best mom to my new little one!!
5. Formals
This is date nights on steroids!! I like to refer to formal as college prom because it basically is. Whether it’s going to your own or being invited to a weekend formal trip with the best guys down row, the glitziest time of the year never ceases to disappoint!! (plus seeing the boys actually clean up for once is super nice!!)
All of this is the fun and visible side of life as a Greek student, but it’s honestly so, so much more. People join this system for many different reasons and I’m happy to say that the people I know that wear letters at Georgia Southern didn’t join for any of these things. Yes, they’re so fun and nice to have, but we didn’t join a group of girls to dress up and get cute t-shirts, even though we joke and say we did. I love my girls because they are there for me at the drop of a hat. I love my sorority because of the amount of love we have for Children’s Miracle Network and our local philanthropies.
It’s really hard to explain to people who haven’t experienced it, but the girls that share my letters (shout to 114 <3) and the girls that have different ones have helped me grow and learn more about me, my relationship with the Lord and about being there for one another through the roughest of times. This makes those fun times even more special because we truthfully don’t need them. We are so thankful for the fun times we get to have, but it’s the people around during those fun times that make it all worth while.
So thankful for the corny countdowns and most importantly the people I get to share them with!!!
