College prices have skyrocketed within the last 20 years. It is disgusting to realize how much money we are wasting. I am a firm believer in the importance and value of a good education, but it is become almost impossible today to really pay for these expenses.
Many young adults like myself struggle with the idea of having to pay for college. I would way most adults have their parents helping them pay for college. This is a luxury. I am thankful that my parents have saved enough money to help put me through the four years I need to obtain a degree that allows me to get started with a better salary. Students who do not have this luxury find it harder to pay for an education. This is unfair and may ultimately stray people away from obtaining a college degree.
It is evident that many students regardless if they have any help from their parents will take out student loans. These loans will eventually accumulate and will lead others to be in extreme debt. Montclair State University is one of the cheaper school and is still priced quite high. It is the cheapest school I applied to and the price of this school does play a huge factor in why I chose this institution.
It is also ridiculous to think about the fact that many professors require the purchases of textbooks and online access codes. These textbooks and access codes are available at the bookstore for hundreds of dollars, this investment is not included in the tuition cost. Therefore, institutions require the additional payment of these books on your own. This means that the money for these books must come out of pocket.
College Education is very important but the question is, is it this important to pay this much money. Most of the classes I am taking are business classes that will be helpful in attaining my degree. However, these classes are supposed to help me get started in my career. If I have to pay back thousands of dollars in student loans. This will actually hurt an individual graduating from college. The student will not have the opportunity to make money for themselves, they will only just have enough money to get by and to pay the money they now owe to the university.
These sad but true facts have lead to a lot of people going to Community Colleges that are less expensive. It also leads people to tend to go straight into the workforce rather than college. This is unfortunate because these people are not attending college because they can’t afford it, not because they do not wish to attend. This leads to a lack of opportunity for these people. I think that the cost of college should be considerably lower so that more people can obtain the luxury of a college education. This is very important and should be considered in my opinion.
