Halloween is a very popular holiday every year and it’s shared by those both young and old. However, some people do not share the love and excitement for Halloween and instead look at it with disgust and disgrace. Though for some people, it may be hard to see this perspective, in the end there is a legitimate reason for their feelings. Whether it be their specific religion, how they were raised, or a past experience with Halloween, the holiday of the supernatural has caused many controversies over the years.
The main idea that causes controversies is the belief that Halloween it the holiday of the devil. People think that everything associated with Halloween points to Satan and his worship and that the celebration of the holiday is downgrading to God. This belief most likely branches from years ago when there were extremely problematic devil-worshipping cults and witch trials, especially the iconic Salem Witch Trials. Others would argue that Halloween is simply a day were people can dress up and have fun being frightened, nothing more.
Many people think that Halloween is the day where a door is opened to another realm, and spirits are allowed to freely walk the earth. They think that messing with the spirits in any way should be discouraged. During Halloween, there are popular games and attractions that people love, such as haunted houses, classic horror movies, and of course board games, Ouija in particular. Some think that all of these things should not be messed with at all because of demons and evil spirits that can be very dangerous in the human world. Then again, others think that all these things are just for fun and there’s nothing to be worried about.
There’s also some people that loved Halloween at first, but something happened that made them take it a little more seriously. Their innocence fun may have led to the true belief of the supernatural. They probably still enjoy the holiday, but treat it and spirits with more respect that before. There are many negative thoughts about Halloween, yet there are plenty of positive ones too. No matter how you feel about Halloween, it certainly is an interesting holiday surrounded by darkness, fun, and mystery.
