This is for anyone who doesn't understand why concerts mean a lot to some people.
When someone is considered a "fangirl" it means they are infatuated with a musician or band to the point of no return (I don't mean that in a bad way because I too have been a fangirl before).
Part of being a fangirl is attending the concerts that the musician/band has. Getting concert tickets is one of the most stressful things. Most of the time fans get their tickets when they're released almost a year in advance (I once bought One Direction tickets a year and a half in advance #noshame). Buying tickets that far in advance means they're most likely going to be expensive. Here's the question from everyone which gets me every time, "why would you spend so much money on a concert/one night?"
Here's why:
Going to concerts and being surrounded by people who are there for the exact same reasons as you are. Being surrounded by people who might feel the same way you do or have been through similar things as you, is a feeling like no other.
At a One Direction concert I went to at MetLife a few years back, they started singing a song that means a lot to me and loads of other fans. Without hesitation, the girl next to me (someone I'd never met before) grabbed my hand and said, "me too." It was as if she knew exactly what I was feeling. That experience alone is why I love concerts, but other people still don't get it.
It's hard to explain, but being in the same room as the artists you admire, look up to, and appreciate is something so worth spending $100+ on.
Not only are you there for yourself and for the experience, you're also there to support these artists and show your appreciation for them. They work hard to produce music the way they do. It's only fair to show up to their concerts.
Some fans agonize over not being able to go to a concert, which I completely understand, but it just goes to show how important it is for fans.
Also let's talk about that feeling literally everyone gets when the lights around the stadium go off and you hear the opening beats of whatever song is first on the set. There is no other level of joy and excitement and even nervousness that flows through every fan there.
The unity and love that omits from the arena/stadium is outrageous. Looking around at a concert, I always just smile because it's insane that many people came together for one night to support the performer(s).
Plus who doesn't want to just have an amazing night signing their hearts out and not being judged for it? I know every time I scream One Direction lyrics people give me side eye, but at a concert everyone else is doing the same thing.
And lastly, let's not forget the two and a half, maybe three hours, you get to escape from all your worries, struggles and just life in general and focus on music. You forget that you have to wake up at 6 a.m. because in the moment, nothing else matters. Reality doesn't exist at concerts.
Concerts are something that are very hard to explain, and unless you've been to one before, you can't truly understand what it's like to be in that kind of environment. So don't knock it till you try it.
