Nearing the end of the semester, it is common to see the jokes flourishing social media about "dropping out of college," and "giving up on grades." While those jokes are easy to laugh at and scroll by, there is some hidden truth to these jokes.
College students this time of year are tired. We are tired of being stressed. Tired of studying. Tired of being forced to take classes that do not interest us. Tired of being tired. But before you give up, here are a couple of things to reconsider.
You are doing this for you. You are doing this so you can empower yourself with an education and make a decent living. You are doing this so you can pursue a career in which you are interested in versus a job you have no passion for. You are doing this so you do not have to stress for the rest of your life about how you are going to pay your bills. You are doing this for your future spouse. You are doing this for your future children. You are doing this for you.
God has blessed you with so many gifts that we as college students look past. Thank Him.
Thank Him for the intelligence to even be able to go to college. Many people in their life were never blessed with enough intelligence to make it this far, and you were. Do not throw that away. Thank Him for the chance to be able to afford a college experience. There are many people our age who would love the chance to to college, but simply cannot afford to and their parents cannot afford to assist them. Thank Him because if you are reading this, you should know you are in the top one percent of the richest people on this planet. There are others struggling to provide sufficient food and water for their families, and can not even dream of the gift of attending college. And while we simply hate and complain about college cafeteria food, the fact is we have food. Thank Him for that. Thank him for the gift of education.
Because education is just that, a gift.
Education is the key to all experiences in this life. Education challenges us for greatness. Education empowers us to overcome. It allows us to make revolutionary medical discoveries and genius inventions. It creates a better life for all, and without it, we would be nowhere.
So as finals and deadlines creep up on us college students this next week, take some time to remember these often forgotten points. Take a break from studying to think about your future family and how much better of a life they will live due to your education. Think of the blessings God has provided for you so you can have a better life. Recognize the beauty that comes from education. Accept that the world's greatest discoveries were made by those who once sat in their dorm room too, studying until they could not keep their eyes open. Remember that greatness has to start somewhere.
Work hard. Make a difference. Do this for present you, future you, and the greater good.
You got this.
