10 Reasons Halloween In College Is More Trick Than Treat

We are too young to have “adult” parties, but too old to trick or treat.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but Halloween has never been my favorite holiday and as I've gotten older I've learned why.

1. I can never find a costume I like.

As a young adult, my costume choices are skimpy or clever. There is no in-between and it’s more a struggle than fun picking out my costume.

2. I don’t like to be scared.

I don’t like to be scared anytime and at Halloween, it just seems like everybody wants to go to a haunted house and be scared over and over again. I have a hard time finding that fun.

3. I don’t like big parties.

I don’t mind a party, but I don’t need to be at this huge party with a ton of people all in costumes. Talk about an introvert’s nightmare.

4. I don’t like candy.

Yes, you read that right, and it's my choice. If anything, its more for you and all the other candy lovers, so I’m doing you a favor.

5. It’s cold.

Those costumes are not warm enough for a Michigan night and putting a coat on just ruins the whole illusion. Also its usually wet or windy as well as cold, which just doesn’t scream “let’s go out" to me.

6. It’s over advertised.

It's the second day of school, all the Halloween costumes come out and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is in every commercial. It just seems a little excessive to me.

7. We are too young to have “adult” parties but too old to trick or treat.

We are in that in-between stage where we have no place to go trick-or-treating, but can’t have a party that is fun without breaking a few rules. It makes the day seem kind of lame.

8. The fun things from when we were young are not as fun anymore.

Carving pumpkins, going shopping for your favorite costume, the Halloween parade, all things of the past.

9. Everything happens at night.

I’m more of a 10:30 in the morning person, and I love a good night in, so you are more likely to find me in my warm house handing out candy, than at a Halloween party.

10. Everyone immediately switches over to Christmas on November 1st.

There is another holiday in November and it always seems to get overshadowed because we don’t get presents or free food. I know those are things we college students enjoy, but let’s not forget about Thanksgiving.

If you are a Halloween fan, have a great night! For those who don't, you know where I will be.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
