The Chainsmokers Know How To Put On A Show

The show that captivated over a thousand Cal Poly kids’ hearts has finally come and gone and it truly was an experience to never forget. We knew what the Chainsmokers were capable of, that’s why we brought them to our campus.

They brought with them a magic that was able to fill the gymnasium. Even the unfortunate souls that were without a ticket the night of the concert found themselves in the gym so they could at least hear the magic happening below them. The ground was rumbling, the walls were vibrating and this time, it wasn't from the guy dropping his 250 pound bar, but rather from a crowd and a band that together could bring the walls down if they wanted. They were able to transform a recreation center into an EDM paradise. Create music that made people not only want to groove together, but come together.

I guess that is the spirit of the Chainsmokers and the purpose of this intimate concert they performed for us. The excitement that filled the room upon arrival never dissipated, even long after they had made their descent. Once the smoke had long disappeared and the lights had finally stopped flashing, the Chainsmokers still stuck around to meet the fans that had banded together to bring them to our campus. This concert constituted a vibe that couldn't be ignored. Their passion was undeniable and the crowd's enthusiasm was more than apparent.

This leads me to believe that when an audience is excited it makes the artist excited making for a sensational concert. Artists want to play for an audience that genuinely likes their music and knows their songs. I’ve seen some artists multiple times and every single time is an entirely different experience. The audience isn't always the only indicator of a phenomenal connection. You can be blessed with the most passionate crowd and play in a large arena that diminishes the ability to be as connected with the crowd due to a non intimate setting.

A smaller venue creates a more engaging experience, because when you feel as if you are at arms distance from the musician of your dreams at every section of the crowd you are that much more invested in the artist and their music. Since Tilt was able to provide the students of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo a night to never forget with the ingredients for success, why not do it again? If Tilt was able to bring to us two musicians we were dying to see, a cozy venue that not only cultivated a positive vibe and strong connection, but was also extremely accessible to the students, I don't see why we shouldn't bring another artist to shake the walls of Cal Poly’s recreation center. It’s as simple as having a dream and finding a way to implement it.

Let’s rally the student body and start a fund through Tilt, since they did such a wonderful job the first time around to bring the next big concert to Cal Poly’s campus. Let’s start preparing for round two, because round one was definitely worth it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
