It's a dilemma almost all college students face: you have an excruciating three hours until your next class and you have a lot of homework you need to get done for tomorrow. So, how do you take action? You could go home, but your little sister is there watching some obnoxious cartoon, and your mom has been on your back about the chores you've neglected to do for the past two weeks; it won't be the most productive study environment. Perhaps the library? You can't get coffee or food from the library, and, let's face it, you've gotten a total of five hours of sleep this past week and you skipped breakfast. Coffee is a must, and your stomach has been screaming at you since you left the house. Lucky for you, I've scoped out Wausau for the environments that will give you your caffeine fix and give you the motivation to complete the paper that's due tomorrow. Being a student at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County, these are all establishments relatively close to campus, therefore maximizing your work time.
5.Starbucks on 306 S 17th Ave
If you've ever left your house, you know what Starbucks is. After all, who doesn't go crazy for at least one of their seasonal flavors (I'm a devout pumpkin spice worshiper)? Starbucks also offers a variety of delicious cake pops. It's cake on a stick so it's double the fun of an actual slice of cake. The WiFi is excellent, and they offer outdoor seating so you can soak up the sun.
4. Biggby on 320 E Bridge St
Believe it or not, Biggby first got me into drinking coffee! The staff is friendly and patient, and their bragels are amazing. The environment is relaxing, and the music they play provides the perfect ambiance for studying. They offer a variety of breakfast foods that will help you kickstart your day, along with your choice of coffee. They offer a variety of coffee, lattes, and teas that will for sure satisfy any craving you have.
3. Allister Deacons at Third Street Lifestyle Center, 300 3rd St # 103
There's not much I love more than local coffeehouses, and Allister Deacons has been providing the community with superb coffee for ten years! If coffee isn't your forte, they offer plenty of tea! There is nothing like being in the heart of Wausau and this coffeehouse is a treasure with a relaxing environment. Allister Deacons also offers a variety of homemade pastries and lunches.
2. La Prima Deli on 529 3rd St
La Prima is a staple to the Wausau community, their dedication to the community is one of the many reasons that makes it so special. Their sandwiches are mouthwatering, the espresso bar is to die for, and the staff is helpful. There's not much I can write about the atmosphere because it's so unique and so lovely. You definitely have to go to get the full experience. They also offer dinners you can take home, or if you're confined to your house, they offer delivery through 715Delivery.
1. Patina Coffeehouse on 610 Washington St
I'm actually sitting in Patina while I'm writing this article - I have so much love in my heart for Patina. The first time I walked in, I felt an overwhelming sense of comfort. There are so many plants and interesting pieces of art, it's very gentle on the eyes. Patina has many pleasant staff members, and their passion towards providing excellent customer service and delicious coffee is apparent. Friendly, comfortable, and caffeinated, Patina is at the top of my list. They offer a variety of smoothies, coffee drinks, sweets, salads, and sandwiches, and every single one of them is amazing. This is a truly unique spot, and I can't recommend it enough.
