Growing up-- whether we were forced to or not-- we watched many Christmas movies. Now that we are young adults, there are few that still stand out to us. The following movies were a favorite part of the holidays for me-- and I hope you can agree. If you haven't seen them, HEAD TO NETFLIX!! These are the best Christmas movies of our generation (in my opinion, of course).
Elf
The classic tale of Buddy the Elf traveling to meet his dad in New York City never can get old. This movie is full of happiness, sadness, love, and of course, lots of humor. In 2003, our generation first saw this movie. Now in 2015, I can say that it’s still one of my first choices.
Home Alone
Although the first Home Alone was released well before we were born, these movies will always have a spot on the list of my favorite Christmas films. The laughs people get from these movies will carry on for many more years. But beware, young children could learn to construct some solid booby traps.
The Santa Clause
This story instantly captured the hearts of America. From this movie, we all got false hopes of our fathers turning into Santa Claus and taking us to the North Pole. If you're looking for a movie that captures the true Christmas spirit, this is it! The Santa Claus will always be a favorite for us—no matter how old we get.
The Polar Express
We cannot even deny it, we watched this as a kid hoping that we would one day get a ticket onto this magical train. Not to mention that you rang bells throughout the house making sure you still believed in Santa. In 2004, the Polar Express took animation to a whole new level, giving our generation another favorite to add to the list.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys
OK, I definitely have no shame adding this to the list. I was around 5-years-old when this was released back in 2001, since then I’ve probably seen this movie a couple dozen times. Back when we had TV’s in the back of mom’s mini-van, my brothers and I would watch this on repeat for days. So if you're trying to relive your childhood a little bit, definitely try this.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
In 2000, our beloved Dr. Seuss book was turned into a movie! This movie took the country by storm by visually expressing The Grinch's classic story. Whether you’re five or twenty five, we can never go a Christmas without watching the Grinch.
Four Christmases
As our generation eventually turned into young adults, this movie was released. Moviegoers got many laughs watching Brad and Kate (a.k.a Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon) travel to four different family Christmases dealing with super funny, relatable family problems. I will always enjoy watching this movie— if you haven’t seen it, you definitely should!
