Accepting The Beauty In Life's Uncertainty

Accepting The Beauty In Life's Uncertainty

Life works out in ways you never thought it would. Once you get away from everything you grew up with influencing you and your decisions, that's when you really start to see the world for yourself and start to understand things. The good doesn't last, but neither does the bad. Appreciate every great moment and take it all in. You start to see everything for yourself, and you observe things around you more deeply and intuitively than before.

You feel lost in a crowd of people and take what lessons you can from others. Listen to the words others tell you, and open up to things you normally would have never known or experienced. We're all helping each other get through life and understand it all better, to fill in the pieces one by one.

At such a young age, we feel like life is all figured out and we have our plan. But once the years start to go by, you realize life can't have a plan. Unexpected misleadings will take you off-track to find something that you were unaware of before, as if it was a blank space that was just brought to light. When you're young and you feel lost, confused about where you're going, it's just a step into becoming. Deep down, every individual experiences this at certain points in life.

But a huge lesson I've learned in college is that it’s not about having everything figured out. It's about taking on each day with a new perspective and an open mind. Be the best person you can be, and embrace every opportunity and moment life throws at you. Because even if it's good or bad, most likely it's to uncover the space you never thought about, but now it's brought to light. It's to help you grow each and every day.

Being a graduating college senior, who, in four months won't know where I'm going to be living, or what I'm going to be doing with my life, it's safe to say that my life is uncertain. Though I've had my fair share of panic attacks trying to figure out what I'm going to do next, there's also a satisfying thrill of not yet having it all figured out.

Not being sure about the future gives you the freedom to explore any sort of option that may interest you. This freedom serves as a blank slate that you can make into whatever you want. Uncertainty means there are all the options and opportunities in the world, which can be overwhelming, but also exhilarating.

When parts of life are uncertain, it can spark a drive to find out what purpose may lie in the future. There's a huge blessing with uncertainty, and it gives an individual the power to shape their life into whatever they may please. Though I will be the first to admit how scary it can be, it can also make you feel most alive. This is an opportunity to deeply assess yourself and to find out who you are and what you want to do with your life. It’s empowering to embrace uncertainty and to learn about yourself each step of the way.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
