To grow up is to get to know yourself. It is to find your passions, your gifts, and your weaknesses. It is to absolutely and completely fall in love with yourself. It is to become the person that you always wanted to be, only to realize that maybe that’s not who you want to be at all. These realizations are part of it all. And yes, it's ok to be scared.
We have these misconceived notions that because we don’t know where we’ll be in five years we’re doing it wrong. But there is no right or wrong when it comes to your future. Every decision you have made until this moment has brought you to this point, and if you’re sitting in class, at home, or outside with internet connection you already have it pretty good.
To grow up is understanding that sadness and fear is the worst reason to stay in a situation you’re unhappy with. It is to look at those situations and ask yourself: “why am I unhappy?”. It is to be able to see that your sadness is in your own hands, and if it’s not it’s only temporary. You have matured enough to give up one thing, in order to open yourself up to receive another.
It is a beautiful thing to know that you’re doing your best. To know that although it might be hard, painful, and scary you will always be okay. This awareness is how you know that you’re growing up, and it is scary and beautiful.
