One of Wittenberg University’s most well-known traditions is streaking The Hollow, a large grassy patch in the middle of campus. Students take their clothes off at the top of The Hollow, run down the hill as fast as they can, and depending on how they choose to practice the tradition, they either touch Recitation Hall or the Wittenberg Police Station before running back up the hill. But Wittenberg is not the only college campus with fun streaking traditions.
The University of Colorado at Boulder hosts their annual ‘Nearly Naked Mile’, which is actually a clothing drive. Hundreds of students run all over the campus wearing barely any clothing (if any) every October in an effort to provide thousands of donated, gently used clothes to those in need.
“I’ve seen people wear ridiculously small Speedos, nipple stickers, donut inner tubes, or just run in their birthday suits” said a senior attending CU Boulder.
At Yale University a prankster club called the Pundits streak through Bass Library (one of the Yale’s largest libraries) at midnight on the first day of finals week. They get as many other students to join them as possible, even students who are in the library studying join in.
“I remember my boyfriend (now husband) who was a football player used to streak Bass Library during finals week. I joined him one time; it was thrilling! I was having a bad week and thought ‘what the hell!’ took off my top and did it” said a Yale Alumni of class, 79’.
You probably haven’t had the full Wittenberg University experience if you haven’t streaked The Hollow. Let's face it, now is probably the last time in your life you’ll be able to streak without it being considered a felony. With spring semester being seniors’ last few months to streak The Hollow before graduation the probability of seeing bare butts running down the Hollow is especially high. So who will be brave enough to take The Hollow in their birthday suits?
