If you haven't heard about it, then you will now...
Recently, Alicia Keys has decided to go makeup free stating in a Lenny letter “I swear it is the strongest, most empowered, most free, and honestly the most beautiful that I have ever felt." Yeah she is the bomb diggity.
She is currently the new judge on NBC's "The Voice," where she is going makeup free. She attended the VMA's in August, also going makeup free. She has performed at several of her own concerts, and attended red carpet events, going makeup free. Basically Alicia gave up makeup, and I FREAKING LOVE IT.
THIS is the kind of movements and messages celebrities should be sending to average Joe's like you and me. It takes strong, confident forces to carry a message like this across the country, and I think Alicia Keys is the perfect person to do it.
She's living life the way she wants to, and that way is not caring about whether she has makeup on or not. It doesn't change the fact she is an amazing artist and an incredible human being.
We are constantly influenced by social media and celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Kim K that we need to look a certain way. That we have to cake on makeup, wear designer clothing, all to feel beautiful. When in reality being your genuine, natural self is the most beautiful person you can be.
I rarely wear makeup, maybe once a week when I go to the bar or to dinner. I also LOVE makeup tutorials and follow a handful of makeup artist on Instagram purely for entertainment and interest. But I am all for this no makeup free movement because we now live in a culture that says we need to look and act like this, and quite frankly I'm sick of it.
When you get down to the nitty gritty, this is what causes depression and other emotional blocks because girls specifically are looking at Instagram models, singers, actresses and thinking they need to look exactly like them. We see these beautiful, highly publicized people and we compare ourselves to them, trust me I've done it too.
We have to remember that we aren't them. We are our own selves with a specific purpose, and it's SO important that we know what were worth, and that our outward appearances DO NOT matter. I know that statement gets thrown around a lot but it's so true.
It's literally all about self worth and knowing how to be confident in your own skin and not worrying about the judgment of others. A beautiful soul is the prettiest thing you can own.
It's important to spread positive messages like "The Alicia Keys Movement," because there are girls and women out there that struggle with fitting in or self worth. Thinking they have to look a certain way to be noticed.
THAT is why I love this message and movement because it spreads self love and positivity. Something that the media doesn't offer a whole lot of nowadays.
And I'm not saying that if you wear makeup every day you suck and you aren't beautiful. I am saying the complete opposite. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL EITHER WAY.
We are all beautiful, and if you think like Alicia and not care about what other people think of you, and you live a free authentic life, you are going to be such a happier person.
It's all about loving yourself guys, and telling the world, "This is the real me. I'm beautiful and I'm awesome. So get over it."
SO THANK YOU ALICIA! OBSESSED WITH YOU, AND THIS MOVEMENT. YOU ARE ON FIRE GIRL.
