The ABC's Of Worcester State

The good, the bad and the ugly.

The ABC's Of Worcester State

A through Z doesn't even cover it. Where to begin? There is nothing more I hate than when I hear people ask what Worcester State has to offer. I wish they knew even half of it.

A

Is for athletics. You can always see Worcester State's athletic teams putting in the hard work around campus and during game time. What I love the most is no matter who you are, you can fit in somewhere. You don't have to play a varsity sport; you could join an intramural team. There are so many to choose from! Most exciting is the new state-of-the-art Wellness Center opening up fall 2016.

B

Is for bingo nights, the most intense of all game nights . I will win eventually! It is a must to attend at least once a year.

C

Is for cookies. The POD cookies are addicting and extremely delicious. Enough said.

D

Is for Dowden Hall. Most freshman reside here. Even though there is no air conditioning and communal bathrooms, it is still one of the best experiences to live there your freshman year. I wish I did.

E

Is for education. We have some of the best teachers here on campus. They are always willing to help us out and go far beyond what is expected of them. Definitely do not hesitate to ask for extra help or go visit during office hours.

F

Is for Frank. If you have ever taken the shuttle or take it quite frequently, then you have most likely taken a ride with Frank. He's an awesome guy, but Frank sure does take you for a ride sometimes. It is always a fun time.

G

Is for Goddard lot, the parking lot we are thankful for but wish we had the space on campus.

H

Is for how well do I need to score on this test to get an A? How well do I need to score to pass? They are few and far between, but there are those teachers. Just like everywhere else, there are a few bad apples.

I

Is for inconvenient fire alarms. Enough said.

J

Is for just one more coffee. Especially in the morning, all coffee locations have lines sometimes out the door, and you have to make the important decision of waiting in line and being late or going without coffee altogether.

K

Is for "Krying." Picture the famous Kim K face when you read this. Tears will be shed, but you will have your amazing friends to help support you through everything throughout the whole year.

L

Is for late night lancers, which are always a fun time. Check them out to see what activity is planned and were and head on down.

M

Is for movie night. More often than not, you will gather with your friends in the common room or in your own room and watch movies all night long. What better way to put off homework and studying.

N

Is for napping. If you can't do it in your room, do it any were you can. No one will judge you.

O

Is for over the semester in a week. That's how long it takes to start hearing it around campus.

P

Is for pizza. The most trusted and edible food in the POD somedays.

Q

Is for quickly running to the mailroom when you receive a package notification. No matter what it is, it is like a mini Christmas.

R

Is for running late. It happens.

S

Is for Sheehan hall. Sheehan is sometimes arguably the best because it houses the cafeteria. On days when weather is bad, you don't have to worry about bundling up or getting soaked from the rain.

T

Is for the May St. building, one of the hottest places on the planet even during the winter. It is so close but so far away.

U

Is for "U" never thought it would be this much work. But it is worth the effort.

V

Is for how very important it is to remember your "one" card. It is the key to everything, so do not lose it under any circumstances.

W

Is for WOO-life. And WOO-state.

X

Is for "Xercise." Burn off some steam or go check out the new Wellness center.

Y

Is for you made the right choice by coming to Worcester State University.

Z

Is for Zzzzzz, the sweet sound of sleep.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
