The 5 Stages of Sister Withdrawals

You spent almost all year with these lovely ladies and grew closer each day and now you must go without them cold turkey? These 5 stages explain the withdrawal process you are probably currently undergoing at this point in the summer

1. Boredom.

Whether it was your pledge class, your in-house group, or even in your small group, there was always someone on the same schedule as you that wanted to have fun at the same times you did. Someone, too, did not have Wednesday classes and was willing to have a little more fun than usual on Tuesday nights. Or someone else was always down to go to Noodles on Wednesday nights when the caf food didn’t look so appetizing. Now all your roommates have different work schedules or all your home friends don’t think going out on weekdays is practical. You start to miss your Tuesday night go-to-girl.

2. TBT.

You start reminiscing looking through all your tagged pictures throughout the year and before you know it, you have put 10 throwback Thursday pictures on Instagram despite it being a Tuesday. You start telling your mom that really funny story about your sisterhood retreat until you realize she can’t really understand the humor like you do. (Your cats don’t understand either). Vicariously living through your past pictures will just have to get you through, for now.

3. Contact.

In order to pretend you all are together, the groupme blows up with pictures, videos, and messages about how you all miss each other and updates into your current lives. You can’t simply let your sisters miss out on that picture of you throwing what you know in front of the Eiffel Tower. Pictures of sisters in other countries, crafting for Littles, and other summer shenanigans take place so you can all enjoy everyone’s experiences even from far away. This allows you to take part in each others’ summer lives as best you can.

4. Future Plans.

Since you are unable to attend theme parties and socials like you have been for the past two semesters, you’re only choice is to plan for the exciting antics of next year to arrive. Even if you’re not social chair, it’s still interesting to see the creativity you’re capable of. You can even plan a few things on your own. No matter what chair you are there’s always something to look forward to. Between sisterhood retreats or just study dates with your girls - even in-house slumber parties. What about you and your roommates’ coordinating plans for the room? Instead of dwelling on the lack of sisters you may have with you at the moment, there are always future awesome times to look forward to and plan for. So put that new Lily agenda to work!

5. Road Trip.

Full withdrawal has sunk in and you simply cannot do it anymore. This sucks. You need your sisters. You and your four closest friends group message madly until all plans are in order. The Fourth of July to visit your pledge class sister in Chicago sounds perfect and picking up your four closest sisters on the way is the plan. Full summer withdrawal is not simply possible from your best friends. And don’t forget to caption that reunion picture “American by birth, sisters by choice”!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
