The 5 Steps Of Grief After An Online Purchase Goes Wrong

In This Article:

I recently had to order an outfit online for a disco-themed event for my sorority. After scouring the internet for days, I finally found the perfect sequin dress... only to have it be the most ill-fitting piece of garment I've ever put on my body. Repeat this process 2 more times and I finally found an outfit that works.... at Forever 21. Here's what you'll probably go through if you ever find yourself in this situation:

Stage One: Denial

When you first try the item on and you refuse to believe that it's actually THAT bad, you can't help but deny it. In this step, you probably stare at yourself in the mirror for 23 minutes (from 297 different angles).

Stage Two: Anger

At this point, you're thinking to yourself: "What the f**k???" You spent all this money, maybe even extra for faster shipping, and then it just betrays you like that... After this step, you rip the garment off and leave it on your bedroom floor for the rest of the day.

Stage Three: Bargaining

You really do try to make it work... You tell yourself things like: "Well, it'll work if I just cut this part off" or "I can just sew the straps so they're shorter" but you DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO SEW. Once you get to this point, it really, truly is over for you.

Stage Four: Depression

Yeah, you now know it's ~never~ going to work and the sadness of the situation sets in. You're probably also sad because you realized A) you wasted all that money and B) you still have nothing to wear. People ask you if you found an outfit yet and you're #Bitter.

Stage Five: Acceptance

There's nothing you can really do about it now, so you might as well try to sell your fashion mishap to Plato's closet and get your money back. Maybe this was the Universe's way of telling you that you would've looked really dumb in that outfit.

Sometimes this situation happens for the best and you end up finding an outfit cuter than the first one. Thank you, Universe. Also, I've definitely learned my lesson... I'll stick to going to the mall for an outfit.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
