Those of you from any small town know that’s where the best food in the world lies. A small town near where I am from, Winder, Ga., is no different. Winder is a city in Barrow County, located in North Georgia, and within the city limits there is some delicious food.
In my opinion, the five best places to eat in Winder are:
1. Friends American Grill
This restaurant is located in downtown Winder, and you can see the cute décor from the road. Locos used to be where Friends now is, and even though Locos is missed, Friends is no disappointment. My favorite dish there is the sriracha fried chicken wrap. It’s the perfect amount of spicy and sweet. You can look more at Friends here. http://www.friendsamericangrill.com
2. Inoko Japanese Steakhouse
For those of you in the Athens area, I’m sure you have been to Inoko, where they cook in front of you and get you to catch chicken in your mouth. However, if you’re in a hurry or don’t want to watch them cook your food, the folks of Winder have the pleasure of having Inoko’s Express. This restaurant is also located in downtown Winder. Your food takes about 10 minutes to cook, and it’s basically the same menu as the restaurant in Athens, and just as delicious. My go-to meal there is the teriyaki chicken and shrimp with, like, 100 yellow sauces. You can look more at Inoko, here https://www.facebook.com/Inokos-150507521642329/.
3. Casey's
If you haven’t been to Casey's, I’m sorry, and you are seriously missing out! This little hideaway restaurant in downtown Winder is famous for its burgers, but its hot dogs and chicken salad are just as good! You can look more at Casey’s here. https://www.facebook.com/CASEYS-112079348818307/ .
4. Top Dawg Tavern
Technically, this restaurant is located in Bethlehem, Ga., (yes, that is a real place, but not the same as where Jesus was born). It’s about 10 or so minutes, depending on traffic, from Winder. It's located at the Gateway at University Parkway. This restaurant has everything you could want: burgers, salads, Coney Island hot dogs, wings and more! Although, the garlic parmesan wings are my favs. And their buttermilk pie is so good! You can look more at Top Dawg Tavern here. http://www.topdawgtavern.com.
5. Dairy Queen
Yes, I am aware that there are Dairy Queens everywhere. However, what every DQ doesn't have is homemade southern biscuits. The DQ in Winder makes the best biscuits for breakfast you have ever had. I promise. If you don't believe me or haven't been, please go try. The chicken biscuit is my go-to every time. After eating breakfast here, eating at a Dairy Queen anywhere else won't be the same.
So if you’re a Winder local or someone visiting, make sure to visit at least one of these places. You wont regret it.
