The 3 Steps on College Tours

Recently I have been going on a ridiculous amount of college tours with my Dad. With them comes a lot of stress, but they are also oddly thrilling.

1. The Road Trip.

It's a mini adventure, you leave early in the morning, with your coffee or tea in hand. You make your parents listen to Hamilton and you eat McDonald's oatmeal for breakfast. On the way there you do more research. Do they have a good program, how many kids go there, what about tuition, how many faculty, and average class sizes? It's a tad insane really.

2. At the College.

They usually have informational meetings that have a lot of smiling people on the PowerPoint slides. Then you break into the tours. This is the best part. Here, you can look around the campus and ask, would I be happy here? Could I live here with out my Dad or cousins? While you walk around campus you try to ask the right questions about tuition, meal plans, etc. When they get to the department you're interested in, you peek into classrooms and facilities, and you wonder if you could get into this school.

3. Driving Home.

This is when you mull it over. You have a heart to heart with your parent. Here you can speak truthfully about what you truly thought. Compare it to other schools, where is it on the list: 1st, 2nd, 24th? Then we have the tradition. After each college tour my Dad and I always get Chinese food to finish the day off.

Finally, always remember to enjoy your tours. They can be a lot of fun if you let them. See yourself in these environments, be truthful, and ask yourself this question: do you want to be there?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
