The Manchester-originated indie rock band The 1975 recently began to make their way back onto the musical map. Within the months of October and November, the band released the track and music video for their new single “Love Me,” kicked off their U.K. tour just last week on Monday, Nov. 9, and announced that their second studio album will be out in February 2016.
The “Chocolate” artists released the video for their lively tune "Love Me" on October 28 and it has already gathered over two million views. It includes an adequate amount of wild imagery like floating electric guitars, girls dancing around in bouncy pink tutus, cardboard cutouts of celebrities such as Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran and more.
In retrospect to their previous works, "Love Me" is much quirkier, '80s-infused, and literally, more colorful. Frontman Matty Healy has been posting some statements about the shift they will be making in their sophomore album, claiming that, "Our new record signifies the start of a new world for us, a more colourful world a less colourful world" and, "We can't simply go on forever -- always staying the same, never evolving."
And this change in identity applies to all parts of the band, including their shows on tour. Prior to going out on the road Healy stated, "We want to play shows, we want a real shared experience," which is clearly displayed through the visual aspects of the concerts they've recently given. In previous performances, their trademark aesthetics have been dark-schemed colors contrasted with pale bright lights, and their unofficial emblem of the rectangle glowing white.
This time around, they are going for a more playful, vibrant approach.
The band will be doing shows in England throughout the duration of November, then will move to the United States just for the month of December, then kick off 2016 by going international -- playing in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Ireland, Switzerland and more, planning to continue all the way into June and finishing off their travels at the Tinderbox Festival in Denmark.
As if they didn't already have enough plans for 2016, their sophomore album entitled "I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It" is set to drop February. Titles and lyrics of a few of the tracks that will be on the record have been revealed through the band's social media accounts, including "The Sound" and "A Change of Heart."
It's pretty clear that The 1975 has a lot to look forward to, as do their fans.
