It's that time again...college campuses will be buzzing with students starting in the next couple of weeks. Summer is coming to an end and some of us are trying to squeeze in every bit of fun that we can right before we have to head back to college. Some may even be packing their belongings into boxes, preparing to move back into a dorm, while others may be getting their books and supplies together.

No matter how we spend the last week of our summer vacation, we cannot fight the inner feelings that consume us when we think about how close the first day of class is. Some of those unwanted, mixed emotions may include:

1. Excitement

Reuniting with friends that you had to part from for the summer is the number one highlight when going back to college. You're even excited about meeting new people and making new friends. A lot of students look forward to getting back into the daily and weekly routines that college life holds. Most of the time, the first week back is filled with a hyped environment, while all of the students are still fresh from the summer.

2. Nervous/Anxious

Thinking about the abundant amount of credit hours you have, in addition to your work schedule makes you wonder how you will even have a social life outside of studying and working. You also haven't heard anything about some of the professors you have, so you don't even know what to expect. According to a good friend, going back to college is like ripping off a band aid-- you just want to get it over with quickly.

3. Stress

Considering how last semester felt, you may already be stressing out about the amount of homework that awaits you in the next few months. You've heard about the difficulty of some of the classes you have this semester, and you're just not mentally prepared for what is in store. And to add on to all of that, you are stressing about the costs of college: tuition, room and board, books, etc.

4. Dread

You dread the very first week of school, because if you live at home over the summer, it is a major lifestyle change to go back to living in a dorm. Nobody likes leaving the comforts of their home and the delicious home-cooked meals that come with it. Now you have to go back to eating at the cafeteria, where the food isn't exactly considered scrumptious.

5. Ready to start a new semester!

Though you may have all of these mixed emotions about college starting back up, you are determined and ready to conquer another semester. It is one step closer to graduating with a degree and pursuing your dream job!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
