That One Moment

The sequence of events that occurs in order to have a great night out in college.

That One Moment
her campus

We all know that single moment.

That thought you have before you knock that one shot of liquor in the shot glass saying "Ram This" right down your throat. I'm not talking about the first couple of shots, I'm talking about that ONE shot. That one that seems to erase every piece of memory from your mind for that night.

It all happens in a sequence, we just may not notice it. You go to the liquor store, buy your favorite alcohol at about 6 p.m. and then head back and throw it right in your freezer as you get ready for a great night ahead. You get ready, then realize you forgot to get a chaser for the night, so you head to Wawa or 7/11 to get whatever you need to wash away the harshness of the cheap liquor you purchased.

You get back to your home, roommates playing music (probably something by Drake), all around a table with their specific bottles taking their first few shots for the pre-pregame. You immediately hit the freezer because you're behind and need to catch up. This is where it starts to get a little fuzzy.

That crack of the bottle is either the best or worst noise you can hear, depending on how ready you are to drink. You take a whiff of the alcohol, and make that face that screams "holy shit, what am I getting myself into?" You proceed to fill the shot glass to the brim, but not all the way to the top because it's your first one and you need to warm up a bit.

You take that shot, and realize that it wasn't the worst thing in the world. So you repeat that routine a couple of times: fill shot glass, take shot. The weird thing is that the shot grows each time because you simply forget to monitor how much you put in. Right about now, you're feeling yourself and wanna put on your jam and be the DJ because you wanna get this party started.

That one person that is always on the aux cord looks at you and says no because you'll put on Work by Rihanna and Drake for the fourth time of the night and you haven't even left the house yet. You then get angry with them and look to your shot glass as a source of support.

You can't fill that emptiness inside of you without filling that emptiness of the shot glass for a fifth time.

And now there goes number six and seven right down the hatch, and you're impressed with the dent you've made in your bottle and show your friends. Right about now, you stand up and think to yourself, holy shit that hit me fast.

You sit back down and let your friends know that you're a tiny bit intoxicated when you know what state you're actually in right now. You look to that bottle, you think, then you look to your phone to pass some time, but then back to that bottle.

This is where that moment comes in. That single thought you have right before you take that ONE shot.

You sit there contemplating what types of decisions you're going to make after this liquid enters your system. You think about the exams you have coming up, you think about that special someone you may make a fool out of yourself in front of, and you think about life in this short amount of time.

But you know what? You grab that bottle anyway and pour yourself another shot. May it be the best decision? Not at all. But that's what we're here for, to experiment.

You have the shot poured, open up that chaser you had to trek out for right before the night, and another thought pops in your head.

Let's have a good night.

And down it goes, that ONE shot following that ONE moment.
