A sister can be a lot of things all wrapped in one: a best friend, your worst enemy, your most obnoxious family member, and your forever friend. I am blessed enough to have an older sister-- someone to show me the ropes, try everything out first, take the blame for some of my dumb decisions, and hold me accountable for the other ones.
My sister is my best friend, although it didn't really start out that way. We used to fight and bicker like all little girls do, especially when they're four years apart. As we grew older, we learned to appreciate the time that we're able to spend together. I began to see that she is one of the smartest, most driven women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She has inspired me on the days that she assumed were her weakest because I could see her strength.
Sis, everything you've done has made me everything I am...and for that, I am so thankful.
I am thankful that you love me, no matter the circumstance. Even if I forget an important date, forget to buy you an anniversary gift, or if I ask for your advice and do not take it for the 30th time, you never give up on me. You continually see the best in me, even when I don't see it in myself. I can never thank you for the constant confidence boost that you give me.
Thank you for all of your phone calls. Whether you're just calling to check up on me or you heard a song that reminded you of me on the radio, hearing your voice after a long day is one of the few things that keeps my scattered college brain intact. You are considerate and loving, and I hate being an hour away from you. No matter if we're on the phone for three minutes or three hours, your jokes and stories make me feel at home.
Thank you for always bring on my side, even when it's evident that I'm wrong. Whenever Mom or Dad yell at me, you're the first to jump to my defense because ever since we were younger, you've made it clear that nobody messes with your little sister. Sometimes I revel in the fact that no matter who I argue with, you'll be there to have my back.
Finally, thank you for setting a good example for me. You have taken me under your wing to show me all of the things that I need to know. You've let me fly when I was doing well and let me fall when I needed to learn a lesson, but you were always there to pick me up again.
Teachers automatically loved me all through grade school simply because you were my sister, and in college, I never thought I'd miss being called, "Emily's little sister." Surprisingly, I absolutely do.
You're my best friend, confidant, and actual soulmate. I could not imagine doing this life without you and I'm so glad I don't have to. I love you!
Always and forever,
Your little sis
