Ever since becoming vegan, I've been discovering lots of new food combinations and realizing that there's more to eat at the Thanksgiving dinner table than buttered mashed potatoes and turkey. Thanksgiving can be celebrated in just as much of a fashion-- just without any cruelty being involved.

300 million turkeys are killed every year in the United States for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I want to share a few recipes for a veganized Thanksgiving-- also known as "Thanksliving."

"Thanksliving" is actually an event that happens every year at the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary where they honor the lives of rescued animals, especially turkeys.

Now here are some yummy and completely cruelty-free vegan Thanksgiving recipes!

1. Tofurkey

This dish involves a tofu designed to taste and look like turkey. It mimics the texture and taste, but is actually indeed tofu! I personally really enjoyed eating it because I can enjoy "turkey" without eating any animals. The bonus of the package is it comes with two packets of gravy-- which is vegan as well! The one from Trader Joes is labeled as "Breaded Turkey-less Stuffed Roast with Gravy" and is $9.99! With a whole tofurkey with the gravy packets- you can't beat that!

2. Vegan Corn Casserole

This yummy recipe is from 'Chocolate Covered Katie,' who is an online vegan blogger. It contains cornmeal, vegetable broth, alternative milk, salt, sweetener, corn, tofu, and coconut oil.

3. Pumpkin Mac n "Cheese"

This recipe by Elana from the 'Inventive Vegetarian' includes macaroni, almond milk, olive oil, flour, vegan cheese, pumpkin puree, bread crumbs, soy sauce, cinnamon, and pepper.

4. Apple Stuffed Acorn Squash

This recipe from 'Meet The Shannons' includes many wholesome ingredients like squash, diced apples, diced cranberries, walnuts, brown sugar, and margarine.

5. Vegan Caramel Apple Pie

This recipe by Kathy Patalsky includes ingredients such as apple cider, vegan butter, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, salt, vanilla extract, apples, ginger powder, lemon juice, maple syrup and caramel apple sauce, and two vegan pie crusts.

6. Mini Pumpkin Cheesecakes

This recipe as supplied by 'Meet The Shannons' includes ingredients such as flour, margarine, sugar, applesauce, vegan cream cheese, orange peel, pumpkin pie spice, ginger, egg replacer, almond milk, and vanilla.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
