Things To Be Thankful For This Thanksgiving
By Christopher Bartlett
It is once more that time of year when we give thanks for the things in our life that we hold most precious to ourselves that we call Thanksgiving. For me, it is the second of four feasts at this time of the year. While a good feast is always great, there is nothing for me like spending time with family. One of the things I am and I believe many of us are grateful for year round.
I know a lot of us around the country will also be thankful that the Chicago Cubs finally won The World Series. Even those that are not baseball fans. After all, it is such a heartwarming story. Though I have run across a few baseball grinches in comment sections.
Those in school are also probably grateful to be learning as well. Especially those in college and maybe in high school. I know a lot of us in our teenage years weren’t too fond of school, so I can understand if they aren’t. In high school, we are usually pretty sure of what we want to be studying and feel like we are being held back with some of the classes they make us take. Trust me those other classes outside of what you want to study do come in handy; they help you grow.
For those done with school and working to make their dreams happen in the work force. I am sure they are grateful for the work they have. Even the unpleasant jobs. At least it is bringing money in as you work to get to where you want to be. Remember to keep your chin up and be proud of the good work that you do, whatever it may be.
Others such as myself are grateful for the wonderful friends we have that support us through thick and thin. You know the ones that pick you up during the bad times and make sure to bring to the celebrations as well. The ones you can trust with any secret as well as share in anything you enjoy without them criticizing you.
And we are all thankful for the feast, no matter what specialty you are having for Thanksgiving. It is just nice to sit down with friends and family to reconnect as we feast. To hear old family stories about your parents and uncles and aunts. To learn some family history, as you eat and laugh and joke with everyone.
I also know that the bookworms in my family and around me are thankful for books and magazines to read after the feast when everyone is sleeping while they are still wide awake. For some reason, those of us who like to read can’t sleep after feasting at Thanksgiving or maybe it is just me. I usually stay up reading or writing. I keep the NFL on in the background. Watching a bit here and there as I am reading or writing whatever is coming into my mind.
Even as we prepare to confront an unsure political future there is plenty to be thankful for. The Constitution protects us for the most part. Some things are so ingrained in society that to tamper with them would me like lighting a match in a TNT Factory. For now, do not worry, just sit back and enjoy the feast and be thankful for what we have. Today is a day for celebrating not for worrying.
Be merry and enjoy the food and company of those you sit at the table with. Celebrate another year with them in your life and all that has been accomplished amongst you. Maybe later even play some games and relax a little once the sleepiness has worn off. Whatever you decide to do to celebrate have a Happy Thanksgiving. *Tips his hat and walks out the door. *
