Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays of the year, but it is so often overlooked with the talk of Christmas. However, why is that? Thanksgiving is a time filled with delicious food, great time with the family and a well-deserved rest from classes. Here are a bunch of things about Thanksgiving that you should start celebrating. Save the Jingle Bells for November 25.

1. The turkey.

How could you overlook the joy that is the Thanksgiving turkey? It's enough to make me swoon.

2. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Do you not appreciate waking up early to watch your favorite stars celebrate on Thanksgiving morning with the delicious smell of the turkey cooking in the oven?

3. A "Charlie Brown Thanksgiving."

Come on. This is a classic. Don't tell me you don't watch this and get really good childhood feels.

4. The post-meal nap.

If you don't take a nap after eating your feast you're doing Thanksgiving wrong.

5. Warm rolls.

6. Black Friday Shopping.

Going shopping in the middle of the night to buy things on sale? Count me in.

7. Thanksgiving football.

Whether you're rooting for your high school or favorite NFL team, this always adds an element to the day that's hard to replace.

8. Being home.

When you're in college, being home for Thanksgiving is such a great feeling. You get to see your friends, family, your bed, and you get to take off your shower shoes.

9. Your family.

Being able to see your family is the best part of Thanksgiving. That's what it's all about, right?

10. Mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce... need I say more?

Like come on, who can beat that? Not Sodexo, that's for sure.

11. Pie.

Pumpkin pie, apple pie, pecan pie: whatever your preference is there's always something for you.

12. The leftovers.

Please let me know your leftover creations.

13. Christmas season is officially here.

Some people might think November 1st marks the first day of Christmas season. To me, it officially starts when Black Friday is over. Cue Mariah Carey!

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
