There are holidays people celebrate and Thanksgiving is one of them. This holiday often gets overlooked because it's so close to Christmas. When November comes around all people can think about is shopping for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It's a holiday but people don't celebrate it as much. My family does celebrate Thanksgiving and we have a big feast. But Thanksgiving isn't all about the food, it's also about being thankful for everything we have.

Thanksgiving was when the Pilgrims came from England and landed in North America to start a new life. They didn't like the government and they were different from the country they came from. They didn't know what they were getting themselves into when they set sail to travel. Hundreds of people passed away on the ships from sickness. When they got to America they settled down and created families there. When winter struck, hundreds of more people died. This was when the Native Americans helped the Pilgrims. They helped them with food and crops, they also showed the pilgrims how to hunt. The Pilgrims and Native Americans had a big feast to celebrate their new lives.

Thanksgiving was hard on the Pilgrims because they lost family members and many didn't think they would make it that far. The thing was though, they never lost hope and they never gave up. Even after all the hardship they went through, they kept pushing forward. They were thankful for everything they got, needed, and friends they made along the way. This holiday has a special meaning, it's about being grateful for what we have. It's about giving thanks for everything we've been through and what's yet to come.

I think Thanksgiving is a very important holiday and it should be celebrated. It shouldn't be ignored because of Black Friday. When we ignore special holidays like Thanksgiving, we are forgetting what the Pilgrims had to go through to start a new life. Without them we may not be here today. It's not just about deals on certain items or waiting in line to get something. In my opinion, Black Friday should be held on Friday not Thursday night. People should have the whole day off and not work.

We tend to only focus on the things we want more than what we have. It's like when they have Christmas music and movies out. Christmas is an important holiday, but Thanksgiving is also. It' a time to be around friends and family to celebrate what we've all been through and to be thankful for each and every day. Try to give Thanksgiving some recognition, and don't only focus on getting things from the stores. Life isn't about deals and money, it's about being thankful for who we have in our lives.

This coming Thanksgiving, try to focus on being grateful for everything in your life. Be thankful for all of the bumps in the road and all of the good things that's happened. I'm not trying to say Black Friday is a bad thing, all I'm saying is sit down and relax. Talk with your family and friends that you don't always get to see. Create memories that will last a life time. Always be thankful for everything in your life, I know I am!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
