Thanksgiving is an opportunity to spend time surrounded by loved ones and enjoy a wonderful meal together. Now, I'm all for those classic Thanksgiving foods and will never turn down some good mashed potatoes. However, not all Thanksgiving foods are as perfect as they're made out to be.
Okay, so first there's that mashed sweet potato thing that sometimes has marshmallows on it. Now, I'm a little biased because I'm not the biggest fan of sweet potatoes to begin with, but having marshmallows on a non-dessert dish just tends to throw me off.
Next up is the green bean casserole. I have just never been able to fully get behind this dish. It has those little crunchy onion-y things on top that are a little too close to Funions for comfort. I think there are mushrooms in it too sometimes, but I honestly cannot tell.
Finally (and I know I'm definitely going to be in the minority here) I have never really liked pumpkin pie. Something about the texture just doesn't agree with me. I don't fully understand how pumpkin goes from being part of a literal pumpkin to some form of brownish sludge atop a pie crust that would be much better suited for apples or cherries or literally anything else.
But again, I love 99% of Thanksgiving foods. Turkey? Sign me up. Cranberry sauce? Every day of my life. Pumpkin soup? Bathe in it. But just as humans are imperfect, as are Thanksgiving foods.
