10 Thanksgiving Traditions

Everyone has their own traditions on Thanksgiving so I decided to ask around to see if anyone had any interesting or unusual things that they did.

1.  A Popular Choice

"My family wakes up and watches the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade while eating cinnamon rolls and looking at the ads in the paper for Black Friday"

2.  All About the Doggos

"My family always watches the dog show on Thanksgiving"

3.  In Ecuador...

"My family is Ecuadorian on my moms side so we have half traditional Thanksgiving food and half Ecuadorian food (i.e. arroz con gandules, empanadas, platanos). We watch the parade too, my brothers and I grab blankets and squeeze into my parents bed even though we are too big now and we watch the parade.

The Rockettes and the Broadway performances are a favorite"

4.  Get Out the Flour

"We always eat dinner at my grandmas house, then my dad watches the football game and we paint turkey and pumpkin shaped cookies with food coloring"

5.  It's Turkey Time

"We always put on the parade and listen to it while we make dinner"

6.  Tradition With a Twist

"My family always watches the parade and football and we usually have pretty traditional food, but since I am a vegetarian I usually eat mashed potatoes and mac and cheese"

7.  Its One Big Party

"We invite literally my entires mom's side of the family to our house and we cook the traditional Thanksgiving meal (seriously all the classics are there and I eat way too much stuffing usually) and during dessert everyone goes around and says what they are thankful for. All the aunts and older cousins go Black Friday shopping"

8.  Scared No More

"My Thanksgiving is pretty normal but I have started to go to my boyfriends Thanksgiving instead of mine and last year I got a little of everything and fell in love with the stuffing. The only problem is that I was all the way across the house and if I wanted to get more I would need to walk past literally everyone and I was too scared to so I just sat there longing for it. This year my plan is to get a TON of it. Also I went Black Friday shopping for the first time last year with my mom and what started as a quick trip to Old Navy turned into a long excursion that left us out until 2am"

9.  It's Christmas

"My family doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving so we have a second Christmas during that time"

10.  ZzzZZzZZzzZ

No quote here, but of course there was an overwhelming response for taking a big nap after dinner.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
