A Thank You To My Sister

You are my rock, you are my person.

A Thank You To My Sister
Briana Charniak

I am very grateful that I am lucky enough to have a sister.

I'm sure having a brother is great, or being an only child I'm sure has its perks but there is nothing in the world like having a sister; especially one as wonderful as mine. Most people are astonished how close my sister and myself are- we never fight.

We may disagree once in a while, but give us five minutes or maybe an hour if it is really serious and we are right back to laughing with each other. I cannot imagine anyone else who I would have rather grown up with. My sister is more than just a sibling, she's my friend.

I want to thank you for being my best friend. You listen to all of my dumb problems and don't complain. You get excited for things I am excited for, and help me through difficulties I face in life. I don't know how I would have ever gotten this far without you. You are my rock, you are my person.

I want to thank you for going on adventures with me. Whenever I want to go shopping, even to Walmart you always say okay let's go. You're a perfect shopping buddy because let's face it we look pretty similar if something looks good on you chances are it will look good on me too. You are also a perfect beach and especially food eating buddy! No matter what we do that day we will have fun together.

I want to thank you for always being there when I need you. Even though we live in different cities and soon we will live in different states you are always just a phone call away. I am so happy that we have such a close relationship and if we go a week without talking that is pretty weird.

I want to thank you for helping me become the woman I am today. I credit who I am to you. Yes, we have a wonderful mother who we both love and raised us perfectly. However, a lot of who I am came from you. I credit my intelligence to you as we used to play school all the time together.

I credit my social skills to you as we always made new friends together. I credit my strength to you as we have gone through some rough times together but you always helped me through it and helped me realize everything was going to be okay.

Lastly, I want to thank you for just being you. I love you with all of my heart and I love who you are. You being you has helped me see who I am. You make me laugh without even trying and I always want to be around you. It kills me that I don't see you as often as I'd like, but I know we will always be just as close. Please never change who you are as it is my favorite part about you.

I love you with everything I have and I will always be there for you no matter what, just as I know you will be for me.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
