With November rolling in quickly, I want to start a sort of series, each week writing about one person I'm thankful for in my life. Previously, I've written about some friends and family members who have impacted my life, so I thought this would be a nice introduction into this series I like to call "Thanks to You."
There is no way I would ever be able to fit the amount of people I'm thankful for into one month of articles, but there will absolutely be more articles about them in the future, it's always rewarding to be aware of those you love and who love you.
For this week's "Thanks to You", I'd like to talk about the person who helped me come up with this series in the first place, my roommate Siri Shelstad. Sorry, Siri, you're sitting across from me right this minute and are totally unaware that I'm doing this, surprise! I've got quite a few things to say to you, so brace yourself.
For starters, I haven't known you too long at all, but from the minute we met, we've gotten along like we've been friends for years. You laugh at my jokes and provide me with laughter from your own horribly bad "jokes", if you can call them that (love you). You've been one of the most impactful people in my transition to Minnesota. It's incredibly important to have a good roommate your first year of college, regardless of where you go, and being so far away makes it even harder. However, you've made me feel right at home.
I feel like I could talk to you about anything. You're such a genuinely sweet and caring person and you radiate happiness. Coming back to our room at the end of the day, I feel comfortable having you there to chat with, eat snacks with, and just hang out with because you've become one of my closest friends here at college. So thank you, thank you for making me feel like I have a home here, and for being such a wonderful person to call a friend. Thank you for being so kind to me when I'm not feeling the best, and for making me even happier when I'm feeling a-okay. The people who know you know how generous and personable you truly are, and I am endlessly thankful I get to call you a friend.
I'm not usually too sappy of a person, if you know me you know that I'm one for playful teasing and one of the most sarcastic people to walk this earth. But it's important to let the people you love know that you love them. So Siri, I know we haven't known each other for this long, and quite honestly I'm surprised you haven't gotten sick of me yet, but I am so thankful to have you of all people here to make this whole college thing a little easier on me. Thank you for listening, thank you for helping. Thank you for being a pal, I love you, roomie.
