In the movie "Legally Blonde," the main character, Elle Woods, faces several obstacles based on her image. Although this is a hilarious chick flick, every time I watch this movie, I feel like I need to get my life together.
Here are some things Elle Woods taught me:
1. Prove to everyone that I can do it
No one believed that Elle Woods would be able to even get into law school. Her teachers didn't, her sorority sisters didn't, her own father didn't. She proved everyone wrong by not only getting into Harvard but by winning the murder trial at the end of the movie.
This is my sophomore year of college and there are so many things I want to accomplish. I've always felt like I've had to prove to everyone that I can accomplish a lot. More importantly, I feel like I've had to prove to myself that I can handle great leadership positions on campus. At times when I felt like people doubted me, it pushed me to prove to myself that I could do it. It pushed me to believe in myself.
2. Work out
As Elle studied for the LSAT exam, she managed to continue to keep her health as a priority. When I have a major exam, I normally find myself stressing out so much that I can't make it to the gym. In one scene, Elle is studying while working out.
I was pretty successful in working out every day last year. This year, I have been slacking. After I watched the movie, I realized that if Elle can work out AND study for the LSAT at the same time, I can handle working out everyday.
3. Study
Elle did everything she could to study for her exam. She had her sorority sisters quiz her, she went to the library and she did not go out some nights so she could study.
I realized that I should be doing the same. Play hard and study hard.
4. Higher expectations
Elle dated Warner, who treated her terribly. He said she wasn't smart enough for him several times throughout the movie. The reason Elle went to law school was to be with Warner. Later, she realized that he was not good enough for her. She knew she deserved better.
Elle teaches girls to never settle for a guy who is not good enough.
5. Be happy
No matter what happened to Elle, she had a positive attitude. Everyone should smile more and think more positively.
As soon as the movie ended, the next day I went to the gym, ate healthier, got better grades.
Open Netflix and watch "Legally Blonde," and there is a chance that you'll get your life together.
