To My Brother, Who Also Happens To Be My Best Friend, Too

You were the best friend when you only had to be the brother.

To My Brother, Who Also Happens To Be My Best Friend, Too

Thank you, brother.

Thank you for being my absolute best friend my whole life, when you had absolutely no choice anyway. Thank you for taking my side, even after I throw you under the bus for something you shouldn't have done. Oh, and I am sorry for all the things you got blamed for that I did. Thank you for helping me hide my meatballs under Grandma Jojo's couch cushions because I hated meatballs and the rule was we had to clear our plates before leaving the table. You and I definitely had our fights. Like when I spit in your bowl of cereal and you hit me with the broom, so we made a plan to tell Mom that the dog broke the broom. Looking back at it I laugh so hard, even harder when I think of all the other fights I had with you. Thank you for always getting along with the boyfriends I had and defending them when I wanted to get back together with one that Mom and Dad didn't like, and when it didn't work out you never said, "I told you so".

Don't get big-headed from this letter now. You are still an asshole. But you are an asshole I am so grateful to have in my life. I may be two years older then you but I look up to you. You have always been the one with all the friends, in all the sports, and going to the parties and get together's. Thank you for hugging me while I cried when our childhood dog passed away. No matter what, I will always stick up for you. No matter what the situation is, being on your side is the most important to me. Believe it or not, you taught me to not be so uptight. You also taught me that I shouldn't knock anything until I try it, and that is a very important belief to follow.

Now that I no longer live at home, I feel like we are so much closer (even though we work at the same job). Thank you for paying for our food even when it was my idea to go out to eat. Oh, and I am sorry I didn't come to more of your football games. Just know I was proud of you. I am so thankful to have a built-in best friend and brother all in one. Something I really want you to know is that you can confide in me no matter what. You can trust me with absolutely anything, and if you ever need me you know I am here, whether you need $10 for food or a ride home from a party at 3 a.m. I want you to know I can be the first person you call. I love going for car rides with you and just singing music anywhere from Gucci Mane to Darius Rucker. Thank you for letting me borrow your car when I can't find my car keys and thank you for being there for me when I need you. But most importantly, thank you for being a great friend to me when all you ever needed to be was a brother. I love you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
