This Thanksgiving holiday, I'm thankful for the opportunity to dream about the future. I am thankful that I have the chance to pursue my ambitions. I am lucky that my family supports me and wants me to experience new things. For me, being more worldly and learning more about the people around me is something that I seek to do in the future. This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the chance to travel around the world.
Traveling may seem out of place among the things that I am grateful for. However, I am first and foremost grateful to my family for raising me and caring for me all this time. They protect me, and they also encourage me to challenge myself. Because I get so much support, my dreams have grown larger and more surprising. One of the things that I want to challenge myself on is exploring the world. Living in a sheltered community as I have, I find that traveling can help me broaden my horizons.
One place I would travel to is Hong Kong since I haven't been there since I was two years old. I would love to be able to travel through the city that my parents grew up in. Some travel highlights that I would definitely try out would have to be Hong Kong Disneyland, the Ladies' Market, and the Clock Tower. I would also just like to see the daily life of people around the city. It would be great to take a study abroad program in Hong Kong just to get a real, common life experience in the city. Immersing yourself into your surroundings will definitely make the experience better.
Another place I would like to visit would have to be Australia, also on the other side of the globe. I am interested in environmental studies and protecting the world we live on, so getting to see all that I am working for be protected would be great. I would like to visit the Great Barrier Reef. I would also like to visit the Sydney Opera House and the various parks throughout the continent. I admire this country for its natural beauty.
On top of these countries, I would like to visit Brazil and Chile, South Africa and Egypt, and many more places. At each of these countries, I would love to visit different cities and popular locations. However, I would also like to volunteer in impoverished areas, visit different, unknown areas, and communicate with locals in their native languages. Traveling is not just a way for people to see new places and explore new areas. Traveling is a way to connect with different cultures and learn different things from different people. I would love to stay with host families and really experience a life in these different cultures. Traveling would give me the opportunity to experience new things. I am thankful that I will have the chance to travel.
