In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I want to share something that I am thankful for, my friend whom I have absolutely nothing in common with. I am incredibly thankful for having you in my life and equally grateful for everything you’ve taught me. Here are just some of the countless reasons why, as told by Friends:
You constantly present me with the other side of an issue, which gives me a larger perspective on things and also allows me to adapt my views. Over the years I have changed or evolved my opinion on many different issues and I have you to thank for that.
You have made me both more sympathetic and empathetic to the struggles of others. Your eco-conscious ways have even stopped me from drinking almond milk, since I know now that it is harmful to bees.
I’m sorry I’m not a vegan but I am doing my part to help Mother Earth.
You force me try new things, most of which I end up liking, too. Remember that time you had hummus in your lunch in 6th grade and I thought it was gross?—And then you made me try it and I loved it and have packed it in my lunch ever since?
Time spent together is never boring, since you’re the adventurous one.
I always bring a map, just in case!
I'm always learning new things from you. I will never forget the time you taught me how to to do a handstand on a skateboard. Well, tried to teach me—we can’t all be as talented as you are!
You are always introducing me to new shows, which has deepened my Netflix addiction to the point of no return. But I never would have watched Stranger Things if you hadn’t suggested it, and I love Stranger Things! #KingSteve
Our differences have strengthened our friendship into an unbreakable bond, no matter how far apart we are or how often you start a new series on Netflix without me. I’m still salty about that, in case you were wondering.
You have taught me how to compromise and also, how to choose my battles carefully.
We usually just agree to disagree when it comes to the hottest Jonas brother (yes, we’re stuck in middle school) or regarding anything political.
Some of the best things in life are polar opposites—like Mac & Cheese, PB & J, and Yin & Yang. We are just as awesome as those combinations, of not better.
Despite all of our differences, there is one thing we can always agree on:
Okay, so we may disagree on where we get the pizza from, bbbut that’s not important! I’m willing to compromise on a gluten free, soy free, low-fat, low-carb, vegan pizza, if we can find one.
