This week has been a rough week. The elections sucked, my cat clawed at me, and I got a C+ on a test I actually studied for. It just goes to say, I have never wanted to sleep through the weekend more in my life. To be completely honest, I tried to. After work I ran up to my room, threw my jacket on the floor, kicked off my shoes, and landed on my bed. In minutes I was fast asleep. That’s when my cat woke me up. As I looked up at him, instead of pushing him off, I smiled. With one of his paws was on my forehead and the other on my chest, I realized that I was blessed. And with the vibration of Anakin’s purring taking up half of my face, I began to come up with a list of what I was thankful for.
Late night food runs
Imagine having to work on homework for 5 hours straight, you miss dinner because statistics have consumed every bit of attention. Unaware to you, your amazing roommate notices your munchies growing stronger, so grabs her keys and says, “get in the car, Taco Bell is still open”. You order everything on the menu that is under $2, and you eat like there is no tomorrow.
Clean Sheets
After a long day of school and work, the best thing to come home to is a well-made bed and some clean sheets. The crispy clean smell when you initially jump into bed reminds your brain of those nice spring days when you walk outside and you are hit with the sight of a cool blue sky and the breeze that matches the atmosphere around you.
Good Music
I carry earbuds everywhere I go. Not necessarily because I want to ignore those around me, but because you never know when you will find a song that you want to listen to and enjoy within the solitude of your own head. Good music can turn a bad day into a good day, an intense moment into an even more intense moment, and it can help you feel like you are being understood.
Great Friends
Going into college I wasn’t sure if I would make it out alive. My only friend was my roommate and for some strange reason I couldn’t seem to make any more. Over the span of three weeks my odds began to change and friends seemed to be coming at me left and right. Over the last two months, friendships have been made that I know will last a life time. Moments have been shared that I will tell my future kids about one day.
Roommate
My roommate is one of my, if not my closest, best friends. We have known each other long enough to be open about everything. Of course, we have our bad days, but communication is key. So this week, the person I appreciate the most, is my amazing roommate.
Life isn’t always going to be great, and that’s a fact, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t great things around you. Take time to look for the blessings instead of the curses, and write them down. Life is good, I guarantee it.
